It would be very helpful currently if vray would render the Ocean shader directly. Or make your own

Use the Phoenix ocean texture (?)

Maya's Ocean Shader is not supported, use Phoenix Ocean Texture as a displacement map like bigbossfr suggested.

What would be nice is if the Phoenix Ocean Texture (as well as the VrayWater texture) could be used to deform a geometry mesh, in addition to displacement. Maya has a texture deformer, so it would just be a matter of getting the Vray stuff to work with it.

Yes, such support would be something we should research, but you can expect it to be quite slow...

The Maya texture deformer is indeed slow. Interestingly the free plugin AA Ocean Suite, which works with the Tessendorf waves like the VrayWater texture does, is quite fast. So it does not need to be slow. I bet if you guys wrote it, it would be fast

Hi, is there any update to this, will we be getting a specific shader that works with the ocean deformers? The HOT ocean plugin vray shader didnt seem to materialize as far as i can tell.

                cheers

VrayWater texture is that shader. What we need is a deformer to go with it
