  • [new build] Build 3.00.05

    Hi,

    We uploaded a new build on the website; you can get it at
    http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/downl...l?s=v-ray-modo

    Here is the change log from the build :

    Build 3.00.05 (10.02.2015)
    =================================================

    New features:
    ===========
    (*) Image Map: Support for single channel EXR files;
    (*) V-Ray Textures: Added a V-Ray Bercon Noise texture. Can be found in Add Layer -> V-Ray Textures Bercon;
    (*) V-Ray Textures: Added a V-Ray Bercon Wood texture. Can be found in Add Layer -> V-Ray Textures Bercon;
    (*) V-Ray Textures: Added a V-Ray Blend Normal Maps texture. Can be found in Add Layer -> V-Ray Textures. Use the Schematic to connect the input textures;
    (*) V-Ray Textures: Added a V-Ray Distance texture. Can be found in Add Layer -> V-Ray Textures;
    (*) V-Ray Materials: Added a V-Ray 2-Sided material. The front and back materials are connected using the Schematic;

    Modified features:
    ===========
    (*) Camera: The "Film Offset X" and "Film Offset Y" parameters of MODO's camera now work in V-Ray;
    (*) Global Preferences: Added a global preference for enabling automatic adding of the "V-Ray Physical Camera" package to camera items;
    (*) Global Preferences: Added global preferences for the initial values of the VFB frame stamp. They are copied to the VFB window
    when a scene is rendered. Once a scene is rendered or the frame stamp settings are manually changed from inside the VFB window,
    the global preferences are no longer used for that scene;
    (*) Global Preferences: Added a global preference that can be used to disable the V-Ray materials affecting MODO's Preview/Final render;
    (*) Image Map: Support for the "Image Still" color spaces in MODO 801.
    V-Ray for MODO will recognize the sRGB, SRGBf, AdobeRGB(considered same as sRGB), Gamma1.8 and Gamma2.2 color spaces.
    All other color spaces are considered same as "Linear";
    (*) RT Updates: Changing the MODO render region, VFB render region or the frame width/height will now get updated during RT rendering;
    (*) UI VFB: The VFB window state is now saved in the MODO scene. The state includes : VFB window position/size, state of the color corrections,
    the frame stamp, lens effects options, etc.;
    (*) V-Ray Materials: Changed the default multiple scattering mode for the V-Ray Fast SSS2 and Skin materials to "Raytraced";
    (*) V-Ray Object Properties: Added reflection and refraction exclude lists;
    (*) V-Ray Textures: The V-Ray Dirt texture now has options to specify "exclude" and "result affect" objects;

    Bug fixes:
    ===========
    (*) Shader tree: Fixed opacity/layer mask not working on a texture layer whose effect is set to
    one of [bump, normal, stencil, displacement] when it is the first texture layer with that effect above a material;
    (*) UI VFB: The VFB window is no longer hidden when the MODO application loses focus on Mac OS X;
    (*) UI VFB: The VFB frame stamp is no longer lost when a new render is started;
    (*) UI VFB: Fixed a crash on Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite, when clicking the "Choose font" button in the stamp controls;

    Greetings,
    Vladimir Nedev

          Oh, so you had access to the alpha builds. You can write an e-mail to support@chaosgroup.com telling them that you had access to the V-Ray for MODO alpha, and
          that you want access to the V-Ray for MODO Beta nightly builds. The dongle will probably need to be reprogrammed as well in order to extend the license expiration.

            What happened to vrayproxy mesh preview and material tagging in this version? Am I doing something wrong? -> https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/..._materials.mp4

              It seems the "Create Proxy command" got broken in this build, vrmesh files created with the previous build seem to be shown correctly in the new build.
              Also the new vrmesh files don't work in V-Ray for Maya either.
              So if you create vrmesh files with this build, they will be corrupted even if you use them in a future fixed build. The material/preview information is just not there.
              Sorry we missed that.

                Good to know old files will render just fine with this version. BTW great update with 2sided and normal blend and distance texture, I was missing all these features in the scene Im working on now. Thanks!

                  In testing the Bercon textures, I couldn't figure out how to get the distortion maps working. Have I missed something? It seems like you can only plug in solid colors.

                    You must use MODO's Schematic to make the connection, which is available only in MODO 801. I am attaching example scenes.

                      Thanks, Vladimir. Having Bercon is going to make a huge difference for many of our workflows. I'm through with bouncing back to the native renderer to use the procedural library.

                        There is one Bug when the Vray Plugin is not fully licensed: In the Modo UI the popup buttons don't work anymore. These are button with a little grey rectangle in the lower left corner. Like found in render preview window 'save as' button etc.
                        This is really a problem, I installed the Vray plugin in a machine to be able to open scene without ignoring Vray settings in case you not need to render. But with that UI limitation its hard to work in Modo.

                          It doesn't matter whether the V-Ray plug-in is licensed or not. This is a Mac OS X specific bug. The workaround for now is to right-mouse button click on such buttons, instead of holding the left-mouse button.
                          (Just wanted to clarify this here as well)

                            I don't know if I can get some help here regarding my issue... Anyway doesn't hurt to try!

                            I was part of the closed alpha testing, and yesterday I emailed support about seeing if I could be apart of the beta testing of the OS X version of vray for modo, since I moved to London to work at Cityscape and I only brought my macbook pro with me. I was told that I could just download the lastest nightly from the nightlies website, but I can't get my license to work, I wondering if I need to update my dongles license, although I was told I wouldn't have to, I can't get it to work... I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I´m using yosemite, also because that dashboard widget says that I have no wubi driver installed...

                            Anyhow, I don't how to tackle this, and would really appreciate some helps, since I'd really like to be a more active member of the testing.

                            Thanks!

                              It would be best to email our support guys again and explain all this; if you still have issues, please email me directly to vlado@chaosgroup.com
                              and we'll sort it out.

                              Best regards,
                              Vlado
