  • Vray 3.6 Not Installing For Modo 14.0

    Hi

I've just downloaded Modo 14 and also the Vray installers from Downloads section in the Chaos site. After installation, VRay does not show up at all in the Modo 14 menus.

    Please could you advise?

    Many thanks

    Hey Peepo

I downloaded and installed the last Nightlies build before installation of modo 14.
Here it works with modo 14.

    Regards

Thank for the quick reply Phil - Im using Vray 3.7 and just tried this from the nightlies:

      vray_adv_37001_modo_mavericks_x64.dmg

      and from the downloads section:

      cgls_mac_5.4.0.bin.dmg

Just ran the installer but still no VRay menu shows up int Modo 14.

      Any other ideas please?

I've just upgraded to VRay Next v4.1 but this does not work with Modo 14 either. There are no nightlies for VRay Next for Modo that I could find - only VRay 3.6.

Any help from Chaos group would be greatly appreciated!

The V-Ray next nightly builds have an updated kit config so they load into 14. You need to email supportATchaosgroupDOTcom and ask for access to the modo "next" nightlies (even if you already have access to 3.x)

NOTE: The following instructions use Windows paths. I'm not a Mac user so you'll have to find where these are.

For 3.7 (nightly) users, you can edit the kit yourself:

          1) Open this file in a text editor:
          "C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\MODO x64\vray4modo\1101\index.cfg"

          2) Change the first line to:
          Code:
          <configuration kit="vray" version="3.70.01" and="app64" and="rel]1099" and="rel[1500">

For V-Ray Next (If you don't want to use the V-Ray nightlies for some reason):

          1) Open this file in a text editor:
          "C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\MODO x64\vray4modo\plugins\1101\index.cfg"

          2) Change the first line to:
          Code:
          <configuration kit="vray" version="4.12.01" and="app64" and="rel]1099" and="rel[1500">
          Win10 Pro 64 / AMD Ryzen 9 5950X / 128GB / RTX 3090 + 1080 Ti / MODO

Hi, I have a similar problem.
Modo 14 and V-Ray 3.6 on Mac OS Catalina.
Went to the index.cfg file, screengrab attached.
File is locked and can only edit by making a copy.
Is it ok to make the copy then edit, then delete origonal and rename the copy? Click image for larger version

Found it - Slarty - you could use a terminal window and go the directory where index.cfg is and type:

                  sudo vi index.cfg

and make the change that way?

All works in Modo 14 now!

Yes, to change this file you should have the privilege or use sudo for this as well

Correct Mac path for terminal is: sudo nano /Applications/ChaosGroup/V-Ray/Modo_x64/vray4modo/1101/index.cfg
