  • Rendering an animation with V-Ray Standalone and RT GPU

    Hi, V-Ray Team,

First off, I want to say thank you for making V-Ray for Modo plugin. I'm loving what you've done here. It's very fast and neatly integrated within Modo's interface. Good job!

I did a simple animation test by moving the camera closer to a table I modeled along with some other objects. The first frame came out fine, but in the succeeding frames, the other objects on the table (i.e. telescope, compass, chalice and dagger) were all gray as if they had no materials applied. All their materials (i.e. gold, bronze, etc) were from Modo's material preset library.

I used "Render with V-Ray Standalone" and "RT-GPU CUDA" for the rendering engine. You can watch the whole thing here: https://youtu.be/5zGaGOAZ8W0

In the video, I set the maximum render time to 1 minute and the last frame to 6 so it will not take long to render. But even if I don't change anything in the settings except for enabling "Render Animation," I still get the issue. I don't experience this with "Render animation with V-Ray." Only in V-Ray Standalone with RT GPU CUDA. Also, notice the wall and the floor. In Modo's OpenGL viewport, the tiled texture is small, but in the resulting image, it's huge. What do you think is wrong? Thank you.

    Adam

PS - I've attached the Modo .lxo file in case you need to test it on your system. I'm running on an AMD 8-core processor, 16 GB RAM with GTX 1080 and a GTX Titan X graphics cards.

Sorry, the video is still being uploaded on YouTube. I forgot about it. About 27 minutes more to completion.

Update: Finished uploading video. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/5zGaGOAZ8W0

Does anyone else experience the same issue when rendering an animation with V-Ray Stanalone and RT GPU? I'm still having the problem. I'm not sure if it's just on my side or my setup. I'm new to V-Ray. Thank you.

        Sorry for not replying earlier.

This is because RT GPU in V-Ray for MODO doesn't support the planar and other projections in the Texture Locator. You have to use UV maps with RT GPU for now.
        See here : https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...TextureLocator

I will check what's going on.
I've tested rendering animation with RT GPU through V-Ray Standalone with the following:
        - animated camera
        - animated light intensity
        - animated light position
        - deforming mesh
        - moving mesh

These all worked, but this was some time ago.
Animating material parameters, for example glossiness, didn't work.

It looks like something else in your case. Most likely a bug.

Thanks. I will keep this in mind.

I didn't not animate the material parameters. I just applied the gold and bronze materials from Modo's preset library onto those affected objects, particularly the "Matte Gold" and "Sandblasted Bronze." The only thing I animated was the camera. So, perhaps this could be a bug? The first frame got rendered correctly though except the ones following it.

Thanks again, Vladimir. I appreciate your help.

          Regards,

          Adam

Yes, it was a bug that affected the gradient texture (which is used on the gold material and others) in animation in RT GPU.
It is fixed for tomorrow's nightly build ( 2016.08.01 ).

When you purchase V-Ray for MODO, you should automatically get access to the nightly builds here : https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com/mai...oshi/nightlies
So, you can test the fix for yourself.
