  • 16bit output option...

I'm wondering if there's a way to output the renders to 16bit from the save menu (PNG / Tiff)? The renders are for highres stills going to Photoshop for print advertising. Currently I'm saving out exr files which I then stack in Photoshop and convert the doc to 16bit. Not a big deal but it is an extra step.

    Hey carsonjones !

Thank you for the post. You have two options to save 16-bit images as PNG or Tiff :
    1. As use "Save as" option from Render Output
    2. In the latest build # 26644 20160812 you're able to use new options in Vray tab - "Render with V-Ray" and "Render animation with V-Ray". You can download it from "V-Ray 3.0 for Modo nightly / nightlies".
Option to save a 16-bit image format is not available within VFB.

Thanks for the tip Boyan. Where can I find the download link for the latest nightly builds?

            Hey,

Sorry for digging up an old thread but did this problem ever get solved? I've tried multiple times now to save a 16 bit tif/png image without any success. After the render is complete I open them in Photoshop and they appear to always be 8 bit. I'm doing exactly what boyan suggested in post #2 in this thread. Running V-ray v3.52.01 from May 30

            Thanks,

              Howdy Tioem,

It seems fine to me. You can use both methods as well. You can select image format from Render Element output as well. After render is done the easiest way to verify the file is to open the file's properties with right click and check the details. The file supposed to be 64 bit (16-bit x RGBA).

              Cheers,

There was a bug with saving 16-bit TIFF or PNG images.
Download the latest nightly build to get the fix : https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com/mai...oshi/nightlies

If you don't have access to that URL (login with chaosgroup.com account), you need to write to support@chaosgroup.com and request access.

I thought it would've been patched in the official release because this problem appeared in beta over a year ago. The latest nightly build fixed my problem.

                  Thanks boyan & vladimir!
