I'm not sure if Modo or Vray creates the surface particles. However V-Ray seem to be way faster then Modo, thats why I hope its V-Ray doing so. Unfortunately it seems to ignore displacement.
Modo seem to do that right only when using procedural maps like noise. As these don't work with V-Ray I wonder how we can achieve that at all? .. to me it would be best if UV mapped displacement maps would be supported. They are so good in V-Ray.
