  • Polyedge Smoothing using Vray Texture

    Hey Guys,

A while back Ben Hurlbut commented on my my spec home thread in the gallery section of this forum. The thread can be found here:

    https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...c-home-renders

He mentioned using a bump map to radius the corners of the oven. This got me thinking. Revit is a pain when it comes to importing smooth surfaces from other programs such as 3DS Max and Sketchup. Most of the time the poly surfaces are quite obvious making rendering difficult. I have looked into re-meshing software but the results are fairly average and creates huge files. So, I was wondering if a Vray material bump map could be used to radius the polygon edges? This should provide a more seamless look between poly faces. Is this possible?

    Thanks, Nick

    Hi Nick,

I would say that it depends on the imported object. Otherwise - yes, you can use Edges texture in the bump slot to achieve round edges. You can find more info about this texture and the way it works here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/MTLEDITOR/Edges

    Cheers,

      Hey Ana,

Thanks for your reply, would it be possible to send me a material with this feature active? I can't seem to get Ben's to work. At the moment I'm trying the material on a square box so it should work fine. Any assistance is appreciated.

      Thanks, Nick
