... also if no rendering is started, but the asset editor is used. After a while the usage stops. I suppose so it's caused by the material editor. So, could it be possible to get all material preview renderings stopped if the asset editor is closed?

The Asset preview window process is running on 50% of the threads across all cores. You can stop, resume or manually refresh it as well as change its output resolution via the preview control buttons.

Could it be possible that someone check the CPU usage again please? The CPU is running to often, also if the asset editor is closed. I hope it's possible to fine tune the code, so that a closed asset editor stop the CPU usage. I hear the CPU fan running - to much energy/noise/heat for nothing.www.simulacrum.de ... visualization for designer and architects

Some additional asset preview performance improvements will be introduce in the next build, including one for CPUs with more than 8 cores.
Apart from that, once opened, the Asset preview renderer can be stopped only through its control buttons, as mentioned in my previous comment. There is no plan to change this behavior, although we are exploring the idea of pausing the preview in certain situations.

Is it possible to set the time limit for the material preview somewhere? If I stop the material preview, I get much less CPU usage, so I would like to set a tighter time limit. I suppose so some material needs a to long time to reach the noise threshold.www.simulacrum.de ... visualization for designer and architects

Tinkering with the asset preview is highly inadvisable. To scale down the resource usage or pause the preview altogether, please use the available controls.Peter Chaushev
