Backside reflection - should it not be enabled per default?

Since Rhino is a surface modeler not all objects are closed solids. Last, during a project I missed reflections and I found that "Reflect on backside" wasn't enabled. Unfortunately this option is hidden in the advanced parameters, so it can be easy overseen. Could this option not be enabled per default? Or what would be the disadvantage?

We are currently debating that; it might make sense to have it enabled by default, but need to measure what kind of performance impact it has on average.
