    Hi glennco

I don't think file naming should have such an impact on any machine, since we're talking about system freezes (which, apparently, are happening randomly). Best would be to check your hardware setup and look for faulty components.

      Thanks for the reply.
Here is why I'm not yet convinced my hardware is the issue, and I'm leaning toward some Vray/Rhino/Windows 10 conflict:
From 12/2017 (when I built the system except for the RTX2070 which was added around 10/2019 ) it ran fine.
Various versions of Sketchup Pro & Vray4, no or not many problems that I can recall.
8/2021 I evaluated Rhino 6, then around 10/2021 added Vray 4, no problems (but I wasn't in production yet).
Switched to Rhino 7 when that was released and I think a short time with Vray 4 then to Vray 5.
As best I can recall & a few notes this is when the trouble started.
I check windows 10 event viewer and there are no warnings that I can see at the time of the freeze.
The frustrating part is the intermittent random freezes.
      Here is an example:
3/18/2021 in the morning & early afternoon ran at least a dozen RTX renderings 1000 to 4000pixels 90seconds to 5minutes each in the same Rhino 7 file, while I adjusted materials.
Turned computer off for a lunch break. Opened the Rhino file from the morning, added "obsolete" note, saved as a new file, opened asset editor, clicked render icon, system freeze.
      I did a hard reset/reboot.
Then opened that same file, ran about 3.5 hours of RTX renderings, maybe a minute of downtime between renderings to reset pixel output & click on saved camera position.
      Smallest was 5minutes 4000x8000pixels, largest was 57minutes 12000x9000pixels. 7 total renderings, GPU 58-60c, room 20-22c.
No freezes or problems during this 3.5 hour session.
Screensaver even timed out display once, I pressed space bar, Rhino & Vray appeared.
I have noticed if I start Rhino 7 open a file, render, close the file, open another file, render, etc, GPU & system memory stacks up. If I then exit Rhino and start Rhino, reopen 1 of the files, system & GPU memory usage is significantly less.
Another possible issue is after 15 years with Sketchup, my fingers will press keystrokes (from Sketchup) while I'm using Rhino. So I don't know if I am inadvertently messing something up.
Last week I used Sketchup 2020 pro 20.2.172 & Vray 4.20.03 on a legacy project with CUDA, no freeze. Ran several renderings 3-5 minutes each plus multiple shorter renders during material adjustment.
      Thank you,
      Glenn

I'm wondering if the system freezes might be related to the ones described here - https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...57#post1108557

Could you try installing the latest NVIDIA driver - 461.92 and see if you get any issues? Also, we've released a new update which can be downloaded from here - https://download.chaosgroup.com/?platform=51&product=47

          nikoleta.garkova Thanks, I'm on 461.92 & updated to Vray Rhino 5.10.02 3/24/21.

Vray froze when rendering from asset editor, requiring hard reset/reboot.

If I open VFB & render it pauses, screen flashes, then renders.
          both above RTX rendering

Did you tried stress tests for CPU,GPU and RAM?

Micha thanks, please see my post from 3/24/21 2or3 above this one.
yes, I have successfully ran stress tests using ITU (Intel Extreme Tuning Utility) as well as lengthy renderings monitoring temps using HWmonitor.

Following up. I had few problems with crashing until installing update 1. Then, crash each time I clicked render. I reinstalled vray, the license server and the nvidia driver and turned off over clocking (i7, 32memory, rhino 7). No improvement.

Fix: I updated the BIOS. Over clocking is off. Result, no crashing.

Soon, I'll give over clocking another go.
