  • toon material: lights become visible (sphere light, rectangular light, ...)

I am currently working on a rendering with hexagonal tiles in which the texture mapping of each tile is rotated which is why I use a toon material with a wood base layer and the outline acts as a visual gap between each tile. this comes in very handy since I don't have to model the actual tile joints. the downside is that as soon as I use a sphere light or a rectangular light it becomes visible (even though it's set to invisible). I rendered the same scene without toon material and it worked fine so I am pretty sure it has something to do with the toon material. has anyone ever experienced something like that and is there a way to solve this problem? as I have said, I would like to use the toon material because it saves me a lot of time modelling the joints and also because I really have to treat each tile differently - so it's not really an option to incorporate the outlines of the tiles in the material.

    thanks in advance!

    Hi la812,

I am not completely sure I understood you correctly, so providing screenshots might prove useful.

There is indeed an issue where invisible lights get outlined (just the outline of the rectangle/sphere light, not the whole light showing up) when rendered in front of objects with Toon material/Contour, please do confirm if that's the case with you. If so, I am sorry to say that this is not yet fixed, but I will raise its priority additionally. Thanks for the understanding and patience!

      Hi Nikoleta,

that sums up my problem perfectly - outlines in case of rectangular lights and actual black spheres in case of sphere lights...good to know that I have to find a workaround.

      Thanks for your reply!
