  • Curve piping doesn't render

Hey guys - the new V-ray 6.20 on current version of Rhino 7/8 doesn't render curves with curve piping modifier.

Can you reproduce? It worked fine before the current version.

    Cheers
    Jonas

Hi, I'm having this issue since upgrading to Rhino 8. I use curve-piping a lot. Regular _Pipe command doesn't work reliably.

            Hello joseph_charleston,

What is the V-Ray version you are using? The issue with Curve piping is fixed with V-Ray 6.20.01 and there are no issues with the latest V-Ray updates.

            Kind regards,
            Iva

I believe everything is up to date. In the below screenshot, it can be seen that the sun on the left, which has curve piping applied to it, is not visible in the frame buffer, but the sun on the right, which was made using the same curve but with _pipe applied to it at the same radius is visible. Both objects have the same emissive yellow V-Ray material applied to them, and theoretically should have the same appearance in the frame buffer window.

                Hello, joseph_charleston,

I am not able to reproduce the issue with V-Ray 6.20.04 with Rhino 8 and Rhino 7. Could you please share your scene, it might help us identify the issue? You can do this by packing your project from the Rhino menu > V-Ray > Pack Project and share the archive here, in a private message or through https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new mentioning the link to the Forum thread in the message.

                Thank you in advance!

                Kind regards,

Thank you for the scene. I was still able to render it:

Could you please export a .vrscene file from this scene (Asset Editor > Render dropdown > Export V-Ray Scene File or V-Ray menu > Rendering > Export VRScene) from your machine and share it?

                    Kind regards,

                        Hello, joseph_charleston,

The reason for the Curve piping not working on your side is that you have somehow installed V-Ray for Rhino 7 on Rhino 8, in some cases like this one the V-Ray for Rhino 7 code does not work for Rhino 8. I suggest you to perform a clean reinstall by uninstalling V-Ray and making sure there are no leftover files (see https://docs.chaos.com/display/VRHINO/Uninstall+V-Ray) and then install it again by running the V-Ray installer.

Let me know if this fixes the issue.

                        Kind regards,
                        Iva
