Hello zale_orcid,
Thank you for sharing screenshots.
Please note that Cosmos assets and materials can not be loaded in the V-Ray Asset Editor in the same fashion as .vrmat files and old V-Ray 5 Material Library (I can see from your screenshot that you have manually added Cosmos materials).
The idea is to work directly from Chaos Cosmos instead of Asset Editor as you are able to import any downloaded materials or assets to your scene directly from Chaos Cosmos. While Asset Editor Material Tab remains for you to load your own custom materials and libraries.
OK this makes sense, so instead of downloading, I just import into the project. That feels unfortunate to me that I can't have my own little group that I pick from in the editor but maybe I will get used to easily navigating the chaos cosmos. Just seems like more work than necessarily but IDK i just started. Thanks Natalie
I am having s similar problems. When you say 'IMPORT into file' vs. 'DOWNLOAD,' that is what I am doing.
I keep having this table disappear after is is supposedly imported and merged.
The problem happens as soon as I use the explode command.
(I do this to separate the two tables from each other.)
The table appears the same in the viewport, but it will no longer render.
STEP 1
In Cosmos, I use the the option to IMPORT.
STEP 2
I then switch it to HIGH resolution.
it.
STEP 3
Next, I use the Merge command and switch Preview type to 'Whole Mesh'
I never get to see the table again in the Asset Editor, but that's not my problem.
If I render the scene now the table usually shows up.
STEP 4
I then use the explode command so that two tables can be separated.
They show up fine in the viewport.
STEP 5
Tables exploded and moved below apart.
STEP 6
They no longer render!
Same viewport with a V-Ray render.
All of the normals are correct and pointing outwards
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
NOTE
I also changed the download directory to something easier to find and manage.
The default directory is a very bad decision; it's ridiculously hard to find when you're moving computers.
I wish there was a single place to check ✅ Same folder as Rhino File.
The ofd location was
C:\Users\David\Documents\Chaos Cosmos\packages\materials \ etc etc
Hello schultzeworks,
Thank you for the detailed steps.
The problem happens as soon as I use the explode command. (I do this to separate the two tables from each other.)
Please note that at this point Cosmos Assets can not be edited in terms of geometry because they are created as render-ready assets that get information from the external file. Even if you merge them and attempt to edit geometry the initial geometry will be loaded from the file during render and the changes will not be applied. Or after exploding it will not be rendered at all as in your case.
The reason for this is that V-Ray Proxy Mesh allows complex geometry to be imported from an external mesh at render time only, this way full geometry is not present in the Rhino scene and does not take any resources, except for the viewport preview. Please see the link for more information: https://docs.chaos.com/display/VRHINO/Proxy+Mesh
Merging the asset is necessary if you want to change its materials.
