  • LC cache slow down and duplicate objects

    Hallo,

this is not a bug post, more a workflow issu. If I use billboard objects (for example a tree photo with transparency map at a plane) and copy and past it at the same place, than it very strong slow down the LC pass.
OK, this can be avoid, but some times it can be, the user make a mistake. I'm working on a large exterior scene the whole day, anything is fine, but suddenly the LC calculation slow down and I can not find the error.

I find a first aid solution - set the secondary ray bias at 0.001. It helps, but I think, it would be better to fix the problem.
    Maybe somebody has an idea.

    Regards Micha

Maybe put this in front of the rendering command:

    !_SelNone
    _Seldup
    _Delete

Thank you Gijs, "_Seldup" interesting command.

Overlapping geometry has always been an issue with V-Ray, and other renderers. I don't know that there is anything on our side that can alleviate that issue without doing per-object collision tests prior to sending the render meshes down the pipeline. On the V-Ray side I don't know if there is anything underway to resolve the overlapping geometry issue - I believe it must be left to the user to resolve such conflicts because as programmers we can not really arbitrarily ignore geometry without causing problems down the line.

Or do you just want some kind of warning message when overlapping geometry is detected?
        Best regards,

Thank you Joe, the seldup command works fine.
