Change in render size results in a blank/black screen render

A newbie to Vray and trying to render an image, at small sizes its fine, but anything above around 2048 x 1536 and the it renders a black screen. Seems to be thinking about the render and doing the calcs but nothing appears. Tried changing the VRAY default quality settings but it seems strange that this happens? Also the render size I think is pretty small, sure you can render much larger normally. Using a laptop, 32 bit Vista, 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6ghz. Driving me bonkers!

are you able to render simple scenes, such as a scene with the infinite plane and a box in it, at larger resolutions?
