  • Lens effect trouble

    Hi,

I rendered a high res image within 1hour and later I thought about to add lens effects - hmm, rerendering needed. OK, I try to rerender a small part per render window only, but the rest of the images is reset to black.

The next problem is, that the lens settings are lost, if Rhino is closed and reopen later.

At this way lens effects makes no fun, the user should be able to activate the needed channel at the channel options and the lens options should be at least saved like the frame buffer curve.

    Ciao,
    Micha

It is supposed to work that way, like any other channels,( material id,alpha etc)you have to enable it before rendering, then you don't need to rerender, just make the change you want and click update,if you forget to enable the material id channel, and enable it after the rendering,it won't do you any good.

    yes this is a problem.

You mean you have a lens effect channel that you can enable?

No not exactly ,I mean like with any other channels, you have to decide before you do the rendering,to enable it.after the rendering is done you can tweak it easily as many times as you want, without having to redo the rendering.

OK, but I don't need to enable the needed render channels every time I open a project file. The lens channel is needed at the channel list, also useful for disabling it, if RAM need to be saved.

No and that is why I replied that yes it was a problem that VRay don't keep the lens settings from one session to the other.

My only point here is that you have to decide before you start the rendering, that you need the lens effects,in that case you have to enable it before, because after it is too late. And one other thing don't use it with the DR,it does not work, and I already reported it.

Yes ... If you want you lens effect you have to enable it before you hit the render button.
Although Lens Effects are post-process - Vray needs to know whether it will use it or not.
Also your scene became black because when Lens Effects are added - a new Render Elements are added in Vray Frame Buffer - and as you know when you change resolution or add/remove render elements - VFB memory is cleared.
Lens Effects in DR mode for now are not working - it is a reported bug - and our developers know about it.
