  • dialogs lose focus and cannot regain control of the software

This has been a problem since the release of 1.50 but i've finally figured out how to reproduce the problem. sometimes dialog boxes get hidden behind other windows and lose focus. it is then impossible to cancel and regain focus. the only solution is to close rhino and reopen the file.

here's how to reproduce the problem.

open rhino but don't maximize, so you can still click on the desktop or other program windows. open material editor. right click on a material and select "apply material to layer". a dialog opens to browse layers. instead of selecting a layer, click on the desktop. you can even just click on the main rhino window. the dialog loses focus and disappears, and cannot be retrieved.

this also can happen when browsing for image maps if the browser window is smaller than the material editor window. it's completely irritating. you have to close rhino and reopen, which is a real chore for larger files.

i've also sent this as a bug report case 9414

    thanks!

If this is what I think,it happens to me also, you don't have to close rhino, minimize rhino, the dialog box is hidden under Rhino's window,so by minimizing it you get access to what is under.

Yes sometimes that works, but many times it doesn't and I have to quit rhino. Painful.

I suffer a lot from this too. Always when using the materials editor. It seems that the materials editor locks up or looses the vray license (?) and I loose ability to close the windows. I can however click in the main rhino window and save the file before quitting rhino, but I do loose all the edits I've done in the materials editor.

As Emil said, this can waste a lot of time with large models.

yeah, it's common with the material editor. if the window that loses focus is big enough, you can still find it and click on it to bring it forward. but if it's smaller than the material editor, it hides behind. dialogs need to be modal.

Hi Marcel - sometimes this helps. sometimes the dialog doesn't appear in the list of windows to choose from, and you have to close rhino.
