  • Edges - Vray traced textures

I'm not getting the desired effect using Edges where separate objects in contact appear with fillet between.

From my understanding the objects must be mesh. If so does the amount of polygons play role for the quality of the fillet?
Should be the Edges texture be added to Bump mapping slot? If so, is the Amount for Bump controlling the size of the fillet?

So far all my tries fail. Can someone share working material for this effect?

    Thanks a bunch

Set the bump to local space bump mode.

      Grigio Thanks!

      Although I'm not getting it..
      Here my steps:
      1. new material
      2. enable Bump/Normal Mapping
      3. local space bump
      4. load Edges (from Ray-Traced Textures)
      ... nothing happens

      Thanks for helping!

        Ok, I made it...
Not bad but it is still limited in size of fillet tho

Actually things are not OK. Concave gets the result but Convex not really. You can see on the picture the Convex edges are marked but not really rounded.
Can someone share a working material?

          thanks

Try a lower edge length value for a more subtle effect but better look overall.
Keep in mind that the object outlines remain unchanged. Unlike displacement when using applying the bump effect an object's faces are not actually modified but it alters the light they receive as if they were.

            Kind regards,

The local space bump type is the bump texture channel at VfR4, but it doesn't work. Is it a bug?

The option was renamed but it should still function as expected.
Can you give us some more details on how it doesn't work?

Please read the message at the progress window, the bump type isn't supported and reset to bump map only.

Hum, what kind of texture do you have in the Bump slot?
Keep in mind that only specific texture types have a Bump output.
If you connect a Bitmap for example the 'Bump Texture Channel' would be invalid and standard bump is going to be used instead.

I set the V-Ray edge texture type.

V-Ray GPU uses the regular Bump mode for the rounded corners effect. The fallback behavior you mentioned is expected.
Note that there is a difference in the rounded corners effect results between the CPU and GPU engines.

                        Kind regards,

Ah, ok, so I hope CPU and GPU will come together in the future. Thank you for the note.
