  • Exporting to Sketchfab with VRAY materials, anyone who has successfully done it?

    Hi,

I would like to export a complex model with many surfaces, which has been already fully textured for VRAY rendering to Sketchfab (https://sketchfab.com/).
All materials have been assigned by layer.
The issue I face is that exporting with materials seems to not represent the materials properly.Glass does for example lose its colors, brushed aluminum its detail ;-(
I tried .dae & .obj file types, as .3dm is not readily available.
As its a complicated model, assigning all materials new is not really an option.

Did anyone sucessfully export from Rhino 6 & Vray to Sketchfab?

    What are your experiences?

Before I did create multirow render images of the models which created good looking representations, but are not a 3D model. I did try also IRIS, but face similar issues with materials of VRAY.
Thanks for sharing it & perhaps, even a workflow!

    All the best,

    Pretty

    Hello,

SketchFab cannot currently support 3rd party rendering engines like V-Ray.
V-Ray materials cannot be used directly. Instead, Rhino materials, synched with V-Ray are used instead. The Rhino materials, however, do not contain all data from their V-Ray counterparts. This is the cause of the discrepancy you described.

A potential workaround for this would be the introduction of texture baking in V-Ray for Rhino. It is an feature which we have considered before but have not yet decided on its implementation.

For V-Ray shader support, you may also contact Sketchfab directly at https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

    Kind regards,
    Peter
