  • Using 3D people - render takes long to start

    Hello everyone,

I use V-Ray 5 RTX rendering on my RTX 2070 and it's super fast and comfy to use, however my company recently purchased Humano photoscanned 3D people. ( https://flyingarchitecture.com/3d-mo...free-3d-people )
There is 30K / 100K poly model (1500 kB / 4500 kB) and 6K JPG textures put into base + 5 coat slots for each body part (total 40 MB). After clicking the render button both Rhino and V-Ray freeze for few minutes before rendering starts. Sometimes interactive crashes when I move the person.

Is there a way to speed up the workflow? Would V-Ray proxy help me?

    Thanks,
    Jonas

    Hi Jonas,

I made a few tests and it seems the texture sizes might be causing this. Are you experiencing the same issue if you try using Material Override? You can have a further read on Optimizing textures in GPU rendering here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...mizingtextures

      Hello Nikoleta,
It looks like Humano models are a bit messy. Some have simple material and others have blend material. As long as I'm working with a 30K low poly model that has only simple non-blend material assigned, it works reasonably.

Thank you for the reference! So on demand mip mapping does not prolong the loading time? In my point of view this could be the optimal setting in 99% of cases.

      Have a nice day

      Jonas
