  • Transparent Background?

Hi - what's the best way to render with a transparent background?

I usually just subtract the alpha JPEG in post-production but I'm sure it would be crisper if I was able to just render without the background?

    Thanks,
    Jack

Save your rendering in PNG format and you should get the transpanernt background.

      Hi jacksivyer ,

Another thing you should consider is rendering upon a black background and saving as an .exr
Otherwise you might see issues like the following:

Here are the steps that would avoid aliasing issues and give you perfect results:

      1. Ensure that the background of your final render is black.
To keep the lighting and reflections you can use the other environment slots:

      2. Render and save the output as an .exr

      3. Open the exr in Photoshop and load the alpha as Transparency

      4. Continue compositing in 32 bit mode or change the image mode to 8 bit (Image > Mode > 8bit/Channel)

      Regards,
      Konstantin
