  • Glass Shader Problems

    Hello Guys, I'm trying to render a display case, and My scene light isn't making its way through the glass. Here's the info:

    Shader: Clear-glass that comes with vRay material library
    Light: Directional Light + Env. GI

    Image01: Glass visible, light on, Both Caustics checked in Indirect Illumination Rollout

    Image02: Glass hidden

    Image03: Glass visible, ciaustics enables in Indirect Illumination Rollout and Caustics Rollout

    Any idea what could be causing the confusion?

    brandonlynne,

    Enable Affect Shadows in your refraction layer.

      I never have used caustic. But did you have set photons at the light source?

      In your case (flat glass) I would not use caustics. At the refraction layer of the glass you can find an option"effect shadow" or something like this. Use this and the glass will act like a transparent object without IOR.

        duh

        Of Course ... thanks guys. Any idea why that wouldn't be enabled by default for a glass shader? Does it affect render time?

          Per default the glass is good for design stuff like wine glasses. My suggestion: ASGvis could add an architecture glass material. If you would use caustic, than additional render times is needed.

              There already is a library of materials isn't there?

                In case it's not clear- you can find the material files in the format of vismat files located in C:\Program Files\Rhinoceros 3.0\Plug-ins\VRayForRhino\Materials. You can load any of those files in the Material Editor by right clicking over the Scene Materials node and choosing Import new material and navigating to the C:\Program Files\Rhinoceros 3.0\Plug-ins\VRayForRhino\Materials folder.

                Best regards,

                  User Material Submissions

                  It would be great if some of the 'power' users on the site could add to the library, or maybe we could haver a section in this forum to add to materials and have people comment on them. As far as architectural materials, it would be nice to see how people are handling wood, tiles, concrete, plants, etc.

                  Is there a way to upload files to the forum?

                    Glass Shader Problems

                    Hi brandonlynne

                    I was joking ( ) , and did have had 'my tongue in my cheek' when I said;

                    is that a call for a 'library of materials' in the official release??!
                    As I know this has been mentioned before;

                    http://www.asgvis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=678

                    As it says in the above post, this should be achievable, after the main release of V4R. I think joeb, crubadue, etc have enough on their hands for now?!!

                    I for one would find it useful to learn off pre-made materials and look forward to contributing my own?!
