Can textures be applied to DXF models,

    DXFs and textures

    i don't know,
but for some 3ds that was not working at first sight, I use meshtonurb command and then do what you want.

      DXFs and textures

I had a problem some weeks befor - an imported mesh dosn't show textures. I have find two ways:

      - export the object to the free tool UV mapper and assign a mapping

      or

      - use David Ruttens Displacement scrip that support reassign of texture coordiantes (http://www.reconstructivism.net/). It is a dotNET plugin and you must install the dotNET manager befor.

        DXFs

Hi JP / Micha, thanks for that, just needed to have it confirmed that DXF were giving a problem with textures, I hope I can salvage my old DXFs to use with V-Ray as I have lots of them, window frames, doors, mouldings etc.
        Thanks very much

If it's the texture coordinates causing the problem, why not just assign a rhino mapping, box or planar or something?

If an object has no UV coordiantes, than the RCM mapping tool dosn't help. My tests has shown me that the RCM tool manipulate the exist UV coordinates, but dosn't create new.

I'll report that as a bug if you can provide me a scene to verify that. My gut reaction is that doesn't sound right, but I'm not sure.

                  DXFs and textures

I was able to apply UVs to the groundplane (L640_OBERF) - I'm guessing thats what you wanted to map? I just went to Mapping->Show Advanced UI-> Add Channel. Then I set it to repeat 5 x 5 and applied a checker texture. It worked fine.

Was I trying to apply mapping to the wrong thing - or am I just misunderstanding what you were saying?

                    DXFs and textures

Interesting. I have done a new test. Import the 3ds model, select the ground tiles, hide all other objects, set rendered viewport and assign a texture per rhino material options - nothing. Than I have set per RCM "planar" and repeat. Nothing. Than I have create a planar surface and assign my texture ... and I'm not sure when, but after I have play a little with the planar surface, the mesh object show me my texture too. Interesting. After a while of playing I have delete the RCM mapping of the mesh object, but the viewport show me my tiled texture. Something works not stable here.

Odd - In my workflow I also created a plane to compare the mapping against - I guess thats why I had success immediately.
