  • light values changed

    Hello Forum,

I just ran into a problem:

some versions ago, the way you control the intensity of lights in vfr was changed.

I have to do a follow-up rendering for a job i did with the old version, when i loaded the scene today into rhino with the new vray installed, the all lights and also light emissive materials looked very dark.
I remember it took me ages to balance all the lights in the scene, so i would like to avoid to do this again by try and error to match the new stuff with the old.

is there such a thing like a multiplier i could use on each of my lights and emissive materials to get the old look ?

thanks for any feedback on this

    best regards

    Andy

    Re: light values changed

I'm not sure, but if I remember me right, it was something with the physical sky and the exposure.
I would try to adjust camera exposure or color mapping multiplier. If this cause, that the sky is to bright, than I would adjust the sky only. I think, the relation between emitter brightness and light brightness isn't changed.

I think you are correct Micha. I believe there was a change in how exposure was calculated (either in the sky plugin or in the camera ) so I am not sure if there is a magic number that can be used.

          Re: light values changed

...well i tried to adjust the lights / emitter materials / sun / sky but i can not recreate the old look of the picture, which is quite embarrassing for me since i feel a little bit stupid telling my customer "well the software was updated and now it looks different..."
(it is a follow up thing).

So in my desperation, i installed different older Version of vray4rhino but i think not the right one

I looked in the download area but i just found

          4.0 SR 1 RC1 (22.feb.0
          4.0 v 1.00 (13.mar.0
          4.0 SR 1 RC2 (13.may.0

the rendering was done one the 13.feb.08, so i really need the version which was the newest one on that date...

i am in a real hurry concerning this so please if anyone still has such a version archived it would be really nice if he could sent it to me.

          thanks in advance

          Andy

            Re: light values changed

v 1.00 is the right version...the date comes from some changes that were made on the server. Keep in mind that the old version can't use the newer RDKs (that are installed with the RCs) so you will have to go through and uninstall RDK via Windows Add/Remove Programs. Quick step by step

            1. Uninstall current Vray
            2. Uninstall current RDK
2b. Uninstall any Brazil build (if you have one)
            3. Reinstall old Vray

You might have to uninstall the old Vray and RDK and try again...the installations are finicky, but as long as you get the new RDK off, then it should work.
