  • IES Lights

They work so much better now in RC2

I wish they could be use,on any kind of lights not just spotlight.
And being able to tag any object as an IES light would be very useful,or just being able to assign a ies file to Vray emitter material ...

    Re: IES Lights

    Renee,

Glad the IES lights are working better for you.

I'm not really sure what you're really asking for...even if the light is called a spot light or looks like a spot light, the way the light is emitted throughout the scene is all based on the data in the file. In terms of applying that to a rectangular light or a piece of geometry I'm not really sure how that would translate. Maybe you can explain it a little with some more detail?

Anyway, at the bottom of this page below is a download for a IES light generator which will allow you to make your own custom ies lights. Maybe that will get you where you're looking to go. I've played around with it and its quite fun.

      Re: IES Lights

OK, I'm kinda new in this Vray for rhino, and I'm getting good results thanks to some tricks I've learnt here, but I need to know how to get IES lights in rhino 4.0..... I'd really appreciate it if you could give me a hand.

          Re: IES Lights

Thanks for the link Damien I will play with it.

Ok If I understand you correctly, and if the light is generated only by the IES files no matter what orientation you give to the spotlight, why not just use a point light?

As for tagging, sometimes we download a fixture in which there is already a globe or something,to simulate a light, tagging that object as light and being able to use the photometric file would be useful.

            Re: IES Lights

Sorry to confuse you (I just woke up, so...), the spotlight will dictate the orientation of the IES light, but thats about it.

Okay, so you're not really looking for the geometry to really even be part of the light generation (in terms of its normals or what have you), but rather, be simply a means of positioning/associating with an IES light....am I following you better?

              Re: IES Lights

Now it could be nice to get an intensity control for IES lights. Most I need a IES light look, but want to adjust the brightness.

being able to click on an object and associates an IES file to it .

                  Re: IES Lights

                  @ Renee...so i guess I got it.

@ Micha...agreed, but for the time being its not in there. A solution is to adjust the intensity of the light via the IES generator link that I posted above.

                    Re: IES Lights

The IES, Sphere, and Dome lights haven't been fully implemented yet. That's why there's no button on the toolbar, or documentation about these types of lights yet. If they don't work, it's mainly because they haven't been fully added yet.
                    Best regards,

About the release candidate, someone can explain me, which is the difference between this and the pay version of the store.

                            Thank you all.
