I've given Truespace a try just now. Unfortunately, I didn't find a way to import the .obj file. It says, I should switch from Modelspace to Workspace, but the flag isn't there ???
If you get it loaded, please tell me!
Because apart from that (and playing around with the rigged models that came with the download), it looks pretty well!
3Ds Max workflow:
The models from the site you mentioned come as .max files
I opened the .max file in Max, the skeleton is attached to the model straight away.
Not sure about .fbx import, there are points in the model but you can't use them as bones - haven't figured this one out yet...

Right, exporting from Max as .obj makes for an easy transfer! How is the re-texturing in Rhino when exporting as .3ds?
