  • Help Me build my Machine

    Hello all...this isnt 100% a Vr4rhino question...

Im looking to buy a new Desktop for my home office. I will be using this computer to model but mostly render (not so much for the entertainment)

I dont want to spend to much espically if its not a necessitiy...how ever i am in no way a tech guy so i dont know what exactly factors into how fast you can render. any suggestions on brand, processor, core, memory etc would be greatly appricated ;D

    For Rendering I suggeest you:

    + 64 bit operative system.

+ Fast processor i5 and up. (speeds render time)

+ 4 GB minimum ( Adds capability to handle big and heavy files and comlex Scenes)

+ 512 Graphics card so Rhino rhuns smooth!

Re: Help Me build my Machine

        Hello there,

From my observation, if u want a fast & smooth rendering process....focus on your Processor. the more Cores the better. (Intel's i7, Xeon...or AMD's phenom II X6)

RAM & Graphic Card- during a rendering process, vray doesn't really use your ram & graphic card. But keep in mind that these two are very crucial in modeling process of your scene. Important reminder, do not buy "Value RAM". Go for the "Performance RAM". Performance ram usually comes with its own heat sink. recommended are Corsair XMS2 series, Kingston HyperX T1 series or G.Skill’s Trident DDR3-2000 series.

Good heat ventilation / air circulation in your cpu is very crucial. make sure your casing is big enough so that your hardware will have a good air flows. Keep your cables tidy with the help of some "twist tie" / " cable tie".

The rest your can ask for local dealer's suggestion. =)

*p/s: if you have some old unused pc in your store room, you might want to consider setting up your very own "rendering farm". vray for rhino/ sketchup offers a distributed rendering services. All you need to do is clean the PC(s) up, set up local area network (LAN), configure all of the IP address, check "distributed rendering" in Vray render option...and you are good to go.

        Happy shopping....and happy rendering!
