  • Hammered Strap Pull

I'm trying to duplicate the hammered strap pull (lower left in screen shot), but not having too much success.

Has anyone ever tried something like this? I bought some diffuse, reflective and displacement maps of the texture andexperimented with the surface, plane and box projection in the texture mapping. This is as close as I can get.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Hammered Strap Pull

I dont think you need displacement for this.... try just only bump.
If you study your precedence image you will see that only the main surface has any really 'hammering' applied to it. whereas your render suggest all the edges have been beaten up!

Id make two textures identical. same diffuse, same reflection properties.
paint all the object using one of the textures
now apply the second texture only to that main face... and add a bump map to that texture only.

hopefully you should get some better effects....

but id only use that method for close up shots, if your zoomed out for all your views then just use the textre with the bump applied,

    post some more renders....

    kind regards

      Thanks Dean (DEANFITTON),

I'll try that tonight (to busy right now drinking a beer and watching the sun set ;D).

I do want to have closeup shots of the render. The handle is for a pedestal desk I'm designing.

        Thanks again DEANFITTON,

I exploded the object and applied the bump map to one surface only. Used a box projection in the texture mapping and played with the UVW repeat. Not there yet, but on the right road.

Need to tweak the edges of the model and match the Bronze color better.

i think that looks a hundred times better already! well done!

is that the only object in the scene? i say this because i think that when you have a little studio setup going, maybe with a hdri environment it will really come to life...
keep it up its paying off!

          kind regards

            Thanks DEANFITTON,

The strap handle goes on a pedestal desk I'm designing. I've got the studio setup and producing some good (for my skill level) renderings. Don't expect any for viewing. The quality on this forum and on the Chaos Group web site is unbelievable. Works of art.

Never could imagine what all was involved when I started this "rendering" phase. Interesting stuff for sure.
