The easiest way to install spawners?

Wow, this was a really long way.
I don't think that it is possible to copy/paste spawner between the machines , since the installation procedure doesn't only copy files on your machine , it is also modifys existing files , and sets environment variables.
It is very interesting why the spawner crash without Rhino 5 installation - I am able to install the spawner here without installed any version of Rhino.
What OS are you using ?

I use XP64, it's a good OS for slaves, cheap and stable. I don't know what R5 is installing so that the spawner doesn't show the python related crash. Interesting is, if I deinstall R5, than the spawner crashs again.

As I reinstalled the hard disk image now I tried an auto update of XP64, but it doesn't worked. I suppose so the MS support is canceled for XP.

In the past it was possible to copy and paste the spawner data from one machine to the next, after the first install was done. Couldn't be created a portable version of the spawner?

I'll try to find an XP machine on our office and I'll test spawner installation without installed Rhino , and I'll inform you later what is the result.

I tried to install Vray for Rhino 5 x64 on XP machine without Rhino installation and I got the following error when I started the spawner.
Could you please confirm if you have the same error on your side - or the error is different.

This happens only on XP operating system - On windows 7 you can use Vray without any Rhino installation.
I'll report this issue to our developers - and I'll inform you when there is a fix to this bug.

A week ago I set up another office pc as render server - no problems at all.
Today, following same steps I was unable to get another one to work as well as render server.
Attached you can see the message I get every time I try to start XMLDEspawner.exe (it crashes immediately)


Do you know the reason for such error? thanks

Hi Svetlozar,

I'm using windows7 (x64), same are the 2 render servers

Both my pc and render servers has rhino5 (x64- latest) installed. Vray has been installed only on my machine (latest version with core 2.00.02)

I simply pasted on the render servers: Distributed Rendering; Python26 and Render Spawner in C:\ProgramData\ASGVIS\Common\x64\vc10


One of servers works fine, on the second one the drspawner crashes immediately

Have you tried to install it ?
Copy-Paste action is different from installing the product - and it is recommend to avoid it.
Please try to install everything on the server and let me know about the result.

I'm sorry but it is not clear to me what should I install?
Are you asking me to install the current vray version (1.50.221 - 64bit) or render server without a dongle? Or I can find somewhere installation of the DR spawner separately?

You should install the same version of Vray on all machines - on the server machine it should be fully installed , on the slaves you can only install DR spawner.
There is no separate installation for DR spawner.
Once you've installed Vray on your workstation and slaves you have to plug the dongle in your workstation machine , and to set all slaves machines to look for license server to your workstation.

Go to Start menu > All programs > Chaos Group > Vray for Rhinoceros > Licensing > Administration > Change Vray client license settings.
Fill License Server field with the IP address of your workstation.

Then you have to start DR spawner , and to run a job from workstation machine.

It is getting a bit confusing..
Your online documentation defines Render Client (the PC I work by default on- you call it "server machine") and Render Server (the remote one that requests data from the Render Client- you call it "slave machine")

On my machine of course I have installation of Vray (this is the Render client according your documentation) with its dongle.
Now, how can I

only install DR spawner

, if

There is no separate installation for DR spawner

?

Should I simply execute XMLDRSpawner.exe from all Render servers (slave machine as you call it)? Or normal vray installation allows me to choose to

only install DR spawner

Beacuse all above was not clear to me, I copied C:\ProgramData\ASGVIS\Common\x64\vc10 folder with subfolders: Distributed Rendering, Python26 and Render Spawner" from my
computer (the Render Server or server machine called by you) to the next computer in the office (without any vray installed, nor dongle, just Rhino5)- at same path file. And it works perfect !!!
Unfortunately same copy paste did not work for another computer in the office I wanted to include as Render server (slave machine)
