My apologies for not being of any assistance. Perhaps someone will teach us both something new.

To have bump map available, you have to first create a standard material, and then add the brdf layer, that way you have access to the bump map,you can delete the diffuse layer to keep it clean. That way you end up with a true BRDF material.

        Thank you very much, Renee.

Not the most clean and direct way around, ain't it... But it seems to be the only solution.
Vray for Rhino users are not really meant to work out sophisticated materials, such as the Vray for Max users, are they.

However, thanx again. .. aaand robshaz - no we know.

You can say that again !I don't know when a clean and more functional material editor, and all the materials that are available to Max will make their way to Vfr....

          Glad I could help you.

But did someone found a reason to use the new vray material. There are a lot of limitations and in my test I haven't seen the promised speed up.

To me it is much more intuitive, and for anything with translucency or transparency it is faster, like frosted glass .
I use almost exclusively that material now,I am in the process of changing all my preset materials to that format, each time I use one of my older material,I recreate it with brdf.
i don't know if they are better, like I said it is more a matter of preferences in my case.

Hi Renee81, I am interested in the frosted glass. I am fairly new to V-Ray for Rhino and have had some success with frosted glass but nothing I would write home about. Would you consider posting a recipe using the new V-Ray material for frosted glass?
                Thank you, Robshaz.

Thank you for sharing. I note that this is not an out the box new V Ray material, in other words straight from the scene materials drop down menu, you have created it from the old standard, and you have added the "V Ray BRDF" layer to it, or am I mistaken?

Yes I always start that way in case I want to add bump map, this is the only way to do it.

Yes that makes sense, and interestingly it brings us back to the origins of this discussion. Where is the bump map option in the new V Ray material? mmmm

there is none ! That is why you have to start with a standard material
