  • Anyone Getting crashes while saving?

I've had a couple of crashes while saving my model since 3.06.03 was installed. Not sure if it's related to VRay yet.

Yes. I had multiple crashes today while saving a small 3MB file I was using just to model light fixtures in for another scene. I thought maybe I had a corrupt file...but I now that you mention it, I think its happened a few times in the past couple days. I guess I'll save my dump file and send to support if it happens any more tomorrow.

I disabled VRay and I had no crashes for the rest of the day. We may have a bug here.

        Hi,

Could you please provide some additional information:
        1. Does the crash occur with specific project or any? Are you able to reproduce the issue consistently?
        2. Was the project created with a previous version of V-Ray? Are you using custom .vropt files?
        3. In which SketchUp version does the issue occur? Are you using any other 3rd party plugins?
        4. What is the release date of the 3.60.03 update installed?

          In my case:
          1. Does the crash occur with specific project or any? Are you able to reproduce the issue consistently? Crashes with multiple, various files....no real pattern, but seems to be when saving or when an operation is running, adding material / plugin operation(ThomThom/Fredo6, etc).
          2. Was the project created with a previous version of V-Ray? Are you using custom .vropt files? New files and files created with Vray 3.6.2 / 3.6.1 No, don't use .vropt files.
          3. In which SketchUp version does the issue occur? Are you using any other 3rd party plugins? Sketchup Pro 2018, version 18.0.16975. Yes, I use ALL the plugins
          4. What is the release date of the 3.60.03 update installed? The latest hotfix...(i believe), June 28

I'm going to try disabling some plugins we had conflicts with one of the last releases and see if that helps, if not I'll try and downgrade back to 3.06.02 and see if I notice a difference in the number of crashes. I'll let you know how it goes.

          Thanks!

GD3DESIGN Thank you very much for the feedback!

Could you please provide a full list of the enabled plugins (with version number, if possible)?

Same answers for me as GD3 - I actually had to disable and Vray and use another engine on the project I was working on.

No pattern - but on saves I was getting crashed
              No vrpot
              2018
Lots of plugins and several engines (Enscape, Thea, Podium)
I haven't used VRay for the last week or so, but I will get back into it and report back tomorrow.

I have too many plugins to even list. I have many disabled and only enable as needed.

Man, what a bummer. Hope you can get it straightened out soon.

Just to update on my end: I tried installing previous Vray release, but it wouldn't render, so I reinstalled the .03 release again. Also disabled some plugins while I was messing around with it that day... Anyway, things have been running pretty smooth since then...that is, I've been having the usual amount of Sketchup crashes. (This was over a week ago....which is about 3 months in arch viz time...)

Is there a plugin to list all the plugins you have enabled? (I was not joking when I said,
Yes, I use ALL the plugins
I remember I disabled the 'sketchucation extension store' plugin again. I was having problems with 'dynamic components' & 'sketchucation' plugins conflicting with Vray a couple of releases back...so I'm keeping it disabled and just load when I need it now.

I had to manually uninstall license server and reinstall in order to get it rendering again.

Could you please try disabling all 3rd-party extensions beside V-Ray and try rendering again?
So far missing/misplaced geometry has only occurred when initiating the render process while in component edit mode. Layer visibility might also be involved if the whole group hierarchy is set on multiple layers. These are just my initial guesses, though.
Please send an email at support@chaosgroup.com with short description of your issue, a link to this thread, and either pack the project and send it over for investigation or request live assistance via teamviewer.

                      Kind regards,

I've been having the 'disappearing geometry' problem too. Just restarting sketchup has been resolving the issue for me.

Same here. I restarted SU and it was fine. GD3, do you have Enscape, Thea, or any other engines installed?

Sorry for super-late reply....I've been slammed...

Yeah, I use Enscape, but don't have Thea installed anymore. Just for a headsup in case you are still having problems - To keep things running smooth, I have to use sketchucation to disable 'dynamic components' and also disable it in the extension manager. I was having problems with the sketchucation plugin, but I've had it on for a couple weeks and haven't had too many hickups. Actually, just last week I had to enable dynamic components extension to install Flextools & their component finder plugin. The shit hit the fan pretty bad. After a couple days of crazy & weird stuff happening in sketchup, I scratched my head for a while and thought about what I'd changed / installed recently. I disabled DC and all has been good since. A shame tho, that component finder plugin looks really handy.

Hope you've got things running smooth again,

                            Cheers!

No worries. I haven’t had any save crashes lately but I disabled Enscape and Thea. Enscape is my vr solution and Thea has already begun to collect dust.
