  • Vray bump artefacts (lines on surface like extra geometry appears)

Hi! When using bump map there some lines appears on the surface. Tried different BRDF methods but that doesn't help. See my .skp document attached.

aha, I see that there are some problems with the holes in the mesh. If remodel them the problem becomes solved. But strange that if I do not use any texture map everything looks fine in a render.

no, I was wrong. Just checked it again more accurately and see that the problem still there while the topology is clean. Peter.Chaushev Peter, what could you say about that? Thanks

Just right now found what solves the issue “texture placement type” should be set as 3d (object space).

          Hello summerson1990

Thank you for the update on your progress.
After inspecting the provided project file, I would like to confirm that the approach you have taken is the correct one and this is the appropriate setting for your goal.

            Hello summerson1990

After another inspection of the project file, it appears that the geometry can be altered in order to avoid this artifact. Please see the attached screenshot - adding an edge in the following location will fix the behavior and changing the texture placement would not be needed.

Anyway, I'd like to know if soon in next releases it will be fixed with GPU engine. As I mentioned above that could be fixed by changing the texture placement type. But that is what concerns procedural textures. But what about the standard? Making each time extra geometry (edges as you advised) make sense when it doesn't take a lot of time working with a simple single object, but when there a lot of such cases in the model this workflow doesn't seem so optimal.

The topology modification works regardless which engine is used for rendering.
If you happen to have a model that exhibits the discussed glitches and cannot be trivially fixed, would truly appreciate if you can send it over for review!

                  Kind regards,
                  Peter

The problem is that it only appears with GPU engine mode. If you choose CPU it will work fine without a need to change texture placement or adding some additional edges to the surface. So that's my question why is that happening only with GPU engine? Please, look at screenshots attached.
