  • Vray Fur Grass Render problem

    Hello
I am trying to render a square of grass with Fur Vray object, with default definitions.
Unfortunately I get an unexpected strange very thin dark threads, which don't look as what I expect to get.
What can be the reason for that?
    I use Sketchup 17 + Vray next.
Important to say that it is not all time like that, and i didn't succeed to find out when it is happen, and when is not.
    Thanks
    Rachel

The density value is set fairly low so you can see more of the shadow of each blade. Try a higher density value too - that way you’ll see more of the blade clout rather than the shadow it produces.

          Hi rachelre,

You should also consider using a different material for the grass.
The V-Ray Hair material tends to work quite well with Fur.

To assign it do the following:
          - Create a new Hair material and tweak its parameters to make it green
          - Go to your fur geometry asset and enable the Material toggle
          - Use the Hair material in the material slot (drag and drop it there or find it in the drop-down menu)

The cool thing about the hair shader is that it renders in an optimal way and gives you some usefull properties to play with like translucency.
Alternatively you can try adding Translucency attribute to your standard shader.
It'll introduce some backlighting and surely make the grass strands look better.

          Hope that helps,
          Konstantin

            Thank you very much.
Actually the grass that I have used, and whose photo I put here above, is a Vray grass (E-200).
            Yet this was the result.....
In addition, I didn't really understand the stages that you wrote.
Is there please any link for some video describing it?

              Hi,

Keep in mind that the Grass materials in the library were not designed to shade Fur.
Their main application is shading terrain.

As for the steps, I recorded a short video showing the setup:
