Hi DCHA34 - exactly! my Lumion 11 wants to set it to 100 after I have set it between (8-10) as suggested by Vray support. Also wondering if this has a influence on Vray 5?

Konstantin - I want to send you a pack project but the file is 220MB. Can you please advise on uploading? Thank you.

Morning Konstantin - Can you please clarify for me?

        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\GraphicsDrivers
        4. Change the TdrDelay value to 8 or 10 (if it was 2, it might have caused the issue)

DOES THE 8-10 apply to the Hexadecimal or the Decimal?

Does this pose a problem with VRay 5 for Sketchup?
          I don't think so.
Only smaller values (like 2 or 1) might present a problem.

              Decimal should be fine.

I also found the following article in the Substance Painter docs.
It explains the exact issue in more details.
                I don't think I shred it before:

I have just ran Vray Benchmark on my system, GPU RTX 2070 SUPER. The benchmark suggested upgrading my driver to the latest version from NVIDIA, I checked their website and I had the latest 'STUDIO' driver installed, it turns out that the benchmark was suggesting installing the 'GAME READY DRIVER' which did have an update, I found this strange as I was always informed that Vray should be running the 'STUDIO' driver and not the 'GAMING' driver. Can anyone tell me which one is better for rendering?

                    Hi waldob.

You have the same problem as i have, and probably as other user have... Your gpu has a poor vram 10 GB of vram it's small i use 2 2080 ti with nvlink almost 20 GB of vram and sometimes it isnt enough You have yo use proxis, small textures etc if your vray gpu crash it's almost for de vram 3080 it's a powerful gpu but has a small vram 10 and if your proyect doesnt fit in the 10gb of vram it won't render
I have been using vray gpu for almost 3 years You need more vram

Thank you for your feedback. I f I have two RTX cards with total of 20Gig will this help?

                        Hi Waldob
it depends how Big is your scene and how complex it is.

What kind of gpu do You have??
For 3000 series only 3090 acepts nvlink.

If You have a 3080 ti or 3080 or 3070 in dual mode ( 2 gpus)
This is not going to help since You can not create a pool of vram.

If the 3080 only has 10 GB of vram and You have 2 of this vray is going to take only 10 GB

You are only going to have 10gb since this model doesnt acept nvlink

                        Only 3090 acepts nvlink.

I own 2 2080 ti with nvlink that is why i have 21 or 22 of vram
But RTX 3000 series is different only 3090 model acepts nvlink

So as advice use cuda is slower than RTX but it takes less vram.

Also if You can render with progressive mode probably is going to take less vram.

Vray team is working in the RTX mode since this takes a Lot of vram.
Use cuda is better right now

                        I hope it helps You.

With vray gpu You have to be very clever in order to avoid vram problems.

a 2080 ti has 11 GB of vram but with 2 of this and the help of nvlink is great!!!

I used to have 2 1080 ti, then i sold them and bought a new 2 2080 ti and thanks of this i can render what ever i want because the nvlink

                        Cheers!!!

Thank you so much for the feedback. So helpful.

I thought if I had two RTX 3080's that this will help with speed up in GPU RTX mode? By selecting two devices in the RTX mode.

I understand the Vram issue now. Wish I new this before buying two RTX 3080's....

Also If I select CUDA render mode will what kind of performance gain will I get you think.

                          Thank you.

                            Hi Waldob

I understand your frustration, spent a Lot of money buying 2 gpus that at the end of time doesnt work because the low memory just 10 GB of vram Even if You have 2 this is not going to help.

There are 2 things You can do and i Will give You another advice

If You sell your 1 of your 3080 and Buy a new 3090 and use both the 3090 and the 3080 this is not going to help too bacause vray gpu is going to take the lowest vram the 3080 vray gpu is not going to recognize the 24 GB of the 3090 since vray gpu recognize only the gpu who has the smallest vram in that case the 3080. ( If You use both for rendering), ( in that case 3080 for your monitor and the 3090 for just rendering so vray gpu takes the 24 GB of the 3090, but you are going to loose a Lot of power because You can not use in that case the 3080 for rendering)

                            You have 2 solutions.

Sell both of yours 2 3080 and Buy a new one 3090 with 24 GB or wait for the next major update, they are working in texture compresión so vray gpu doesn't take too much vram.

I still believe 10 GB of vram is very little is not that much if You want to render heavy scenes.

Your vray gpu is going to be very fast but for small scenes since the límit of 10 GB of vram. That is why i didnt sell the 2 2080 ti because nvidea didnt support nvlink with the 3080 ti

Chaos group should have an article about that since people some times doesnt know about new series like the 3000 ampere and in your case and some cases they bought a new gpus that is going to be very fast but is impossible to render since the low vram or the lack of nvlink support. ( In order to avoid frustration like this one...)

Vray team are working hard for vray 6 so wait and probably You are going to be able to use both the 3080 bucause the texture compression is going to help a Lot to reduce the vram in vray gpu.

Ok thank you. I think Vray 6 for Skethup might be out in two weeks... Will see if the texture compression has improvde.

To clarify then with two RTX 3080 I i will only have a improvement with GPU rendering mode?

Is this also similar to VRAY swarm rendering where if you have more then one GPU you can reduce rendering time?

                              Thanks,

Hi, please see link below of this guy testing 2 x RTX cards with regards to CUDA rendering and RTX cores benchmarking test.

It seems to get over a 100% improvement?
