  • Ultra Critical! V-Ray 6 for SketchUp, hotfix 1 upgrade stops CUDA/RTX rendering from working.

    Hello All,

Ive just upgraded to the V-Ray 6 for SketchUp, hotfix 1 and now I cannot utilize my GPU's at all. Both CUDA and RTX do not engage the GPUs. When I select them from the "3" dots menu they automatically deselect themselves and will not engage on any renders.

This is a massive issue as I have a deadline today and now Im dead in the water.

The previous version was working fine and now it does not.

Is there a fix for this?

The rig im on now is using 2x 3090's and a Threadripper CPU, Win 11, w/ up to date Sketchup and NVIDIA 528.02 drivers.

    Need help on this asap!

After selecting either all, some, or just 1 the menu resets and does not use the GPU(s)

Made even worse here is the upgrade also updates the working project file and cannot be downgraded. What a load of bollox.

      Hi,
and if you remove an RTX 3090 from the motherboard, does it work?
I'm not a graphics card specialist, but maybe it would allow you to work and turn in your work on time.
      It's just an idea.

        Hi DCHA34,

Thanks but not possible as other parallel workflows require the dual setup (vram critcal). If did that I would have to stop go to such extremes it simply wouldn't work. Plus I have to cross reference each interactive render iteration in other apps. Sadly not going to work. Although It would be a good test in general to see if its dual GPU related. Main niggle is that it was fine version prior so just out of the blue nothing works and the update also updates the file including the backup so im in a catch 22.

          Hello,

It works fine on my end, do you have NVlink enabled?
Try to disable in Nvidia control panel and see if it works fine

We will do more testing on our side

Does not work here. And was working prior to upgrade so I fail to understand why something would break?
Did you change the code in relation to SLI?

No settings changed from previous working version. So most probable issue is related to hotfix code.

We have automated tests on NVlink-enabled machines, it is supposed to catch such issues. It is hard to tell what this is about at this point of time
We are investigating your report now, what Nvidia driver are you using?

Im going to have to try and downgrade this hotfix. My schedule has been destroyed due to this bug.

Please alert the team of this massive issue. IMO its really unacceptable for paid software. Im in a pro environment and this kind of stuff forces the hand of our buyers.

Downgraded, found a backup file not altered, thankfully. Everything working as it should again. Please let me know when you have a fix. I've alerted our collabs not to upgrade until this is resolved. We have a mix of 3090's and A6000's.

                    Downgrade operating:

Also I forgot to add, with that hotfix upgrade the frame buffer window was also not showing up every time renders were triggered. It would often lock out the window only to be seen in the task bar preview as a blank white screen. When selecting it it would not show up at all. This was happening about 80% of the time we tried to launch a render or just trying to open it alone without any rendering.

Using the Asset Editor's Select Devices dropdown currently resets your devices list.
The issue is already fixed in our internal builds and its solution will be shipped soon as part of the upcoming v6.00.02 update.

In the meantime, please avoid using that dropdown list and instead set up the devices you wish to use for rendering via the standalone GPU Device Selection tool.
You can safely edit your device setup prior to launching SketchUp.
The tool can be accessed through the SketchUp menu 'Extensions > V-Ray > Tools > External > V-Ray GPU Device Selection' or directly at:
                        C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for SketchUp\extension\vray\bin\vray_gpu_device_select .exe

                        Hope this helps!

Ok found that tool and added the devices as instructed.

Now I get this error all over the logs:
