      Hi QMG

When 5.2 came to scene this heavy crashes began happening it was a really a nightmare because i still remember sketchup and vray became unstable and i have to turn off the workstation.

That is why i still use 5.1 because is really stable and works nice.

Some people had been talking about this issue and seems it still happens.

And i forgot to say sorry the other day about how did you feel in your work since you couldnt render your proyect in front of your team.

I can imagine the stressfull moment you had when vray gpu wasnt working.

There are a lot of issues with vray gpu, a long with many unsupported tools or shaders.

And right now issues even for small scenes

I hope in the near future we can use vray without issues.

        Hello Luis,

Yes right now its horrible this has ruined a whole project schedule that was once on track to be finished on Monday.

I sit here in the studio now in the dark trying anything to fix this workstation.

Im frankly quite PO'ed that no one from support or the dev team is actively trying to help me.

I work my butt off to run a good business yet these guys are out to lunch not even thinking about their customers.

And we have every right to complain when its a product that we pay for and have paid for for many years, Loyalty is something we value here yet I suppose not everyone is cut from the same cloth.

We are now thinking of switching to Maxwell and doing a recco for all our associates with Vray. This is bittersweet because we do like using Vray but this situation now has completely stopped our studio from doing any work!

No one can run a business like this when you rely on a firm to keep their promises to their customers and seemingly ignore them in a moment of chaos.

I'll have to continue trying what I can to fix this now until giving up and moving on. And I know there will be a steep learning curve but at least hopefully we can move forward with our work.

I have tried everything, reinstalling everything fresh, etc... nothing works and we have been in this business for many, many years...we know how to manage our workstations at the highest level. Vray is the only app not behaving as it says on the tin.

        Sad.

Just to be transparent and fair, support did just respond to us so there is some movement on that side of things. Everyone else just checked out so thanks to Natalia for being around during this moment.

SO now the whole situation is stuck, mistakenly updated the main project file with Vray6 assets so now we really cannot go back to using Vray5. Any attempt to load the model and run Vray5 crashes Sketchup.

I and anyone else stuck in a situation like this would hope for some real time support that can create solutions. Support that doesn't clock out a and stays to make sure each one of their customers is cared for. This is the mark of a fantastic business, not only due to superior innovation.

Tried downgrading the driver 1 more step down. Tried upgrading it one step above. Now I try all drivers possible to download from Nvidia to see if I get a positive result on anything.

Frame buffer doesn't load, nothing renders only these errors.

Did fresh installs of everything still no result.

                    Disabled Nvlink/SLI, still no result.

Took out the GPU's replaced with same models just brand new, still no result.

Added more RAM just for the heck of it. Still no result.

Manually removed all software and reinstalled verisons of Vray 6 & then the hotfix, still no result.

No result no ability to work file upgraded backup upgraded so now completely stuck and seemingly out of options other than to make Vray 6 work as its been promised to do.

Ok finally got things running again. How?

Downgraded to the lowest possible driver Nvidia has on their site. Yet I don't think this was the fix.

The second part was disabling NVlink.I have not turned it back on for fear of breaking things, and I need to get back to work. Ill test it when Im in the clear work wise.

The third and I think the solution was going into every Chaos folder and hidden file and erasing anything I could find and reinstalling, for the 8th time, V-Ray from zero.

Magically after this and a restart rendering works again.

I wouldn't call this a fix because, lets be honest, I shouldn't have to do this, but for anyone who is stuck perhaps this might help.

Feel free to ask me anything on my hellish time with this software, if anyone cares.

Hopefully a proper fix is coming soon that avoids all this Chaos.

I installed 2x 3090s in my box with NVlink to test this, I'm using the exact same build and the recommended Studio driver 526.98
On my test scenes my machine is very stable, I'm not getting any errors, with or without NVlink
I'm using Windows 11, I only change these 2 settings in Nvidia control panel

I suggest we do a remote session I will take a look at your setup, Please let me know when you will be available.

This however is still a problem as some software/hardware requires drivers to be recent making way for a driver versioning issue across different configurations.
Not really, Please use the recommended Studio Driver, which we test extensively with our products.
We work closely with Nvidia on the topic of drivers, the recent driver updates on the Geforce side has been targeting certain games. It offers nothing to V-Ray GPU. Using the most up to date drivers is not recommended by us

Installing a new driver you have to choose Custom Setup, then check the Clean Install box. Then you need to restart the machine

                        Best,

                          Hi Muhhamed

I havent tested vray 6 gpu but i really have many questions about that.

I remember in the past didnt see too many issues with vray gpu also i dont remember change one time an another from one driver to another.

Why vray gpu is still crashing so Hard.???

I remember this with 5.2 but before 5.2 never happened so heavy crashes.

On another note what is going on with the VFB issue.???

I remember with 5.2 vray gpu took so much vram, is this resolved???

Even if chaos group decided to bring new features to vray gpu 6, if we have issues like QMG explained well that is not worth to try it if vray gpu crashed so heavy.

I dont want to feel what QMG experienced.

You have to understand that a lot of vray gpu users do complex scenes with vray gpu and i believe that there is when vray gpu crash on heavy scenes.

And i remember talked with Konstantin while the vray gpu 6 beta about please keep the software without bugs, it is time to enjoy vray gpu without crashes.

How can i try vray gpu 6 with this...Only scare me to find again bugs and big issues.

                          Thanks again
                          Luis Gamiño

                            Hello Muhammed,

So Im back after these big updates in the studio.

Now we are fitted with 6000 Ada Lovelace and Threadripper Pro, the one im on now is using the Threadripper PRO 5975WX.

I see an issue already. The drivers we are only allowed to download start with R525 U5 (528.49).

So this is the issue. Why does such a top render software maker like Chaos not keep driver compatibility up to date?

The main issue here is we use other software that requires newer drivers while Vray requires aged out drivers.

We cannot be changing drivers all the time based on which software we use from one moment to the next.

The page @ https://www.chaos.com/vray-gpu still says an older version is needed. Is this still valid with the new update Im seeing now?

We are about to update driver software now and I am guessing after this Vray will not work. I will test it now to see what goes down and report back..

So we just finished updating all software, SketchUp and Vray along with the newest Nvidia drivers. To my shock everything works thus far. Ran a few renders at 8K to push it and everything seems quite stable. We will continue to stress test tomorrow and report back here as needed. Whatever the devs did in this update, it worked out great. Props to the devs, Ill be lurking around to help keep things honest.

                                QMG Thanks for the update!

The GPU page has recommendation for Geforce cards only, nothing for Quadros and Teslas. You will not find 526.98 for your GPUs
We will add a special driver recommendation for Quadro/Tesla drivers very soon, based on your request. I will message you here once this is live

On another note, we tend to update the recommended driver every 3 months or so. It takes a lot of time and effort to verify a recommended driver on our side hence we do it only when needed. This happens in coordination with Nvidia
That being said I understand your situation, if it ever happens that you need to update drivers for a specific software please message me, we will start testing/verifying on our side to help you
Still this doesn't mean you will jump on every new driver update, this is not a good idea(from my experience as a Print artist in the past 6 years using GPU rendering)

Congratulations on the new hardware, and happy rendering!

                                Best,
