  • V-Ray 6 and Enscape compatibility

We bought a subscription based on the compatibility with Enscape, it was suggested that you simply could render your Enscape scenes with V-Ray. I found that V-Ray did not support neither the extension Skatter's proxies, Enscape's linked objects nor Enscape lights. All of them are important parts in my workflow.
To use V-ray, it seems I have to make and maintain a separate version with V-ray proxies and lights - to get a render that - for the average user - looks more ore less the same as Enscape. (Which is not worth the extra time, really.)
Enscape is our main rendering solution because of its one-click, no-fuss VR-abilities.
Am I right or have I missed something important? Does anyone have any experience to share?

    Hello, karins_skaug,
V-Ray 6 for SketchUp supports Enscape lights and Lindalë's Skatter 2 proxies.
If you experience difficulties rendering either of them with V-Ray, please reach out with more info at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new so my colleagues can assist you!

As for the Enscape proxies - V-Ray for SketchUp support for Enscape Linked models is on our dev team's to-do list. We plan to have it in the next major V-Ray 6 update (6.1).

The current Enscape support in V-Ray is just the first step of integrating workflows between our products.
Having SketchUp scenes with Enscape data directly read in V-Ray is a solution for increasing photorealism through V-Ray's more advanced tools without having to recreate the whole project. This is especially useful for professionals who work with both products or studios who have some specialists work with Enscape on the design process and others who work with V-Ray on the final visualizations.
For the average user, the compatibility introduced in V-Ray 6 allows them to take the imagery they produce with Enscape to the next level.

Some fine-tuning will always be the way to go in V-Ray, e.g. choosing specific areas to cover with VRayFur (grass), setting up volumetric environment or substituting some Enscape material and geometry assets with higher-quality ones from Chaos Cosmos. Other than that, the scene is good to go, and most importantly, the Enscape and V-Ray data simultaneously stored within skp files will not cause any conflicts.

    Kind regards,
    Peter
