  • Glossness Map dont work

I`m trying to make some filter to a glossiness on refraction, but when i apply the bitmap to it the refraction desapears. Why? Same thing on highlight glossines and reflection glossiness, the reflection desapears

    Re: Glossness Map dont work

ok now i`ve downloaded the last version of vray for sketchup, and the glossiness map (bitmap) worked on preview, but how do i make the mapping? on the first version of sketchup i just put a texture with out link the material and the mappign were made. But with this version that all textures is linked how do i do? It is a trasnparent material with no texture on difuse

You would have to put a map in the diffuse.

If you're doing glass then you don't have to do anything more as the diffuse is completely transparent anyway, so the diffuse texture is never seen.

If the diffuse is visible you will have to either:
set the transparency to fully transparent for the default diffuse layer and then create a new diffuse layer which then will be the one seen in the render.

      or:
once you've mapped the object, you make a copy of the bitmap you've used in the diffuse, edit it and fill it with the diffuse colour. Then you can replace the bitmap in SU. It'll look like you've got a plain colour applied to it.

How you do it can vary, but the is is that you have to have a texture in the default diffuse layer in order to generate mapping co-ordinates.

        Re: Glossness Map dont work

        Hi Andeciuala,

Before I start with any thing, I MUST say that big credits go to Stefanq because I learnt this techinc from one of his previous posts.

If I'm not mistaken, I understood that you want to make a material whose glossiness is controled by a map.

To do that, you should put your map in the Fresnel light colour slot in the reflection layer.

        See the attached photo.

I hope this will help you.

        Regards,

          Re: Glossness Map dont work

Hi there man, fresnel is very nice, but its very diferent from glossiness map. The glossiness map is add on highlight glossiness. But only last version works fine. Fresnel filter, only filter the reflection, but i wanted all reflection, and a glossiness filter.
          Thanks anyway.

            Re: Glossness Map dont work

In SR1.5 (1.05.30) the reflection bitmap doesn't work. It turns out like it was 100% reflective.

But loading it into a fresnel map works. But not if you use a blend map.
So a workaround seems to be to add the bitmap to a fresnel map and set the IOR very high.

                Re: Glossness Map dont work

Dalomar, i've already discovered that only the last version of vray works fine, with glossiness maps, and refraction glossiness maps, the other two versions dont work. At the last version of vray for sketchup i'd could apply the right map in the right place (not on fresnel chanel) and get the result i'd like to.

Look at my final and very satisfy results
                (sory for my english lol)

Yes. So I'm quite curious to what the differences between us are.

becouse, if you use on fresnel it will make like this:
this part is reflective and glossiness, and that one is not. Using the glossiness, or the reflective map, i can have clean reflection and on the same part the glossiness blending by a map. you can try but you cant get the same result i did on there using the fresnel. I've tryed but u cant.
