  • Strange Enormous Objects Appear in Rendering

I've created a scene in SU a few days ago. Yesterday, I rendered this scene in VRay with all of the SU layers turned on and everything came out perfectly except for some dark blotches on the furniture and bright spots on the wood floor. Here's how it came out below:

While the blotches and spots are a pain, this was just a test image that I was going to send out to an interior designer, so it didn't need to be perfect.

The interior designer then requested the same image today, but a little larger. So I opened the SU file, and re-rendered the image, changing only the image size in the Output tab from 1230x850 to 1845x1275.

    Below is the result:

Where did all of these huges masses come from?

Like I said before, all of the layers in SU were turned on. I have no hidden layers or objects.

As for the settings in the VRay Options menu, everything was set to default except for the changes listed below:

    Global Switches
    Low Thread Priority: Checked
    Hidden Lights: Unchecked
    Default Lights: Unchecked

    Camera
    Physical Camera: On
    Shutter Speed: 200
    Film Speed (ISO): 400

    Output
    Override Viewport: 1845x1275

    Environment
    GI (Skylight): Sky: Multiplier 1
    Background: Sky: Multiplier 1

    Irradiance Map (Primary Engine)
    Min/Max Rate: -4/-2
    HSph. Subdivs: 100/40

    Light Cache (Secondary Engine)
    All Default Settings were used

As I said before, aside from these changes to the VRay Options, everything else was kept at the default setting.

Can anyone figure out why these objects are appearing in my rendering?

    Thanks,

    Marcus

The obvious answer is paranormal activity... were you using the Necronomicon as a user manual?

Jokes aside, could you upload the scene file somewhere so that I can look at it or email it to support@asgvis.com? I am very curious to see if I can figure this out.

I've only seen this kind of erroneous behaviour once, a long time ago. I can't remember how I fixed/worked around it, but I think it was caused by sloppy modelling of a certain part of my model (it was a very complex spline curve which was extruded/pushpulled) which was causing SU to send incorrect geometry info to VfSU. I probably deleted and remodelled (or exploded and re-grouped) that part of the model to fix it, but it was years ago so I don't recall exactly. It may also have something to do with scaling of components... again, exploding and re-grouping of the offending comps should fix it.

about the blotchiness, my only advice is to use Irradiance Map + Light Cache. All my blotchiness problems with interior renders were over when I switched from DMC to Light Cache as 2nd Engine.

As for the weird geometry, call a shaman or even the ghostbusters. On another note, just send the image to the interior designer. I know plenty of weird interior designers... who knows... maybe he will find you a genius!

We get that kind of splotchinnes also when we have V-Ray fully adaptive. Go to DMC sampler and use .85 on "Adaptive Amount"

            Hey Alrami,

Sorry for the long delay in my response, after getting back from vacation I plum forgot about getting this matter fixed until I tried rendering the scene again today.

I'd love to send you the .skp file so that you can give it a whirl, but I'm not sure what's the best way to email large files (for free, preferably). Would sending it via yousendit.com work?

              Hello Marcus,

We usually use mediafire.com but if you can send me a link to a file I don't really care how it gets here.

                Hey Alrami,

Here's a link to the SktechUp file below. Oddly enough, I had done another test render today, and this time it came out fine. I didn't change any of the settings either. Let me know if you notice anything strange.

                Thanks again!
