  • Terrible system lag/slowdown while rendering

Recently I've been experiencing extreme lag while rendering in VfSU, so much so that it's become pretty much impossible to multitask. After several months of not really using SU/VfSU at work a few viz jobs landed on my desk recently and I was shocked to see this lag. Other than updating to SU M5 and the usual Windows7 x64 updates I haven't changed my setup.
Checking and unchecking "Low Thread Priority" doesn't seem to make any difference.

One of the greatest things about VfSU was the ability to render in one SU session whilst modelling assets in another or doing some post-processing in PS. This used to be no problem at all, now I can barely navigate in Windows Explorer, surfing the net is painful and meaningful side-by-side work is a no-go.

Running SU M5 8.0.16846, VfSU 1.49.0.1, Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1, hardware in signature below.

Anyone else experienced this or is it specific to my system?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jackson

I don't believe that the low thread priority parameter worked in 1.49.01 at all. Have you tried lowering the priority of the SketchUp process in the task manager? http://www.wikihow.com/Change-Proces...s-Task-Manager

Devin, you're a star! I had no idea that you could set the priority of processes in the task manager! I had Googled about this and experimented with limiting the number of cores the SU process could use, but it wasn't effective and was way too much of a hindrance when rendering. I can't believe I didn't notice the "Set Priority" in the process context menu before! Now to Google how to make this priority permanent...

Thanks for the help with this. Very odd that the behaviour has changed, I wish I could track it down to a specific time/change. Probably some Windows or driver update screwed things up.

glad that helped Jackson I have no idea why 1.49.01 would suddenly go crazy like that. I'm hoping the next version will be a little more kind, especially since the set low priority feature should now work properly.
