  • 34003 Bug - Sun/Sky Position Random for vrscene render

Good news: the awkward camera issues with 2 point perspective scenes seems to been worked out (basically in previous versions you could not reliably pan or zoom while in 2 point and then save the scene, as rendering would not match the viewport intermittently).

However, I can confirm the sun/sky system does not match the SKP settings saved to the scene. Model is hosek et al (if that matters) and our normal rendering process is to export to a vrscene file and submit to our farm (which may make a difference, local renders within the skp UI don't seem to struggle with this as much, but can't confirm its definitely a vrscene issue)

This has been happening since the vray3 initial release, and our workaround thus far is to use HDRI's for all environmental light, but sometimes we need that extra level of fine control to really thread the sun in between buildings.

As requested, attached are some screenshots as well as files to help with the debug. I just want to point out that this keeps the sun static, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes the sun is 180 degrees off from where it should be, sometimes, its just rotated 45 degrees - it seems mostly random. This model along with most of our models are geolocated, and the shadow is updated into the scene settings (ie change shadow, then update scene). Also, our typical workflow is exporting vrscenes and then submitting those to Deadline for rendering, so this may be a vrscene translation issue when the file is being written (as seen with the same location of the sun between the two vrscene files). As of right now, we have no workaround as its random and intermittent, which means that we have to rely on dome IBL for all of our scenes.

It seems that switching between "pages" or "scenes" doesn't trigger the SketchUp ShadowInfoObserver which is what is used to update the SunLight plugin. This has been logged and will be resolved. As a temporary workaround you can trigger an update of the vray sun by changing the time (In the SketchUp Shadows tray) to something different and then back again to the time you actually want.

ah! that would make a ton of sense - we use that workaround to fix a "stuck sun" while using RT, but I never really thought about manually moving it and then kicking out the vrscene.

          thanks so much!
