  • LightMesh With Bitmap Not Working

    Hey all,

Have been playing with this for awhile and haven't been able to figure it out. I am trying to create the impression of a screen, complete with colored glow around it.

This works fine for a flat screen, where all I have to do is create a Rectangle Light, assign a bitmap of the image I want to use, and make sure it is visible. Viola, it shows the image I want, plus colored glow around the edges.

When I try to do the same for a curved screen (using a Mesh Light), I set the bitmap the same way I did the first time, except now I need to place a texture behind the light, set it to invisible, and I still get a blue tint, with no sign of the actual image underneath.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

As you can see, here the screen has a green reflection on the bottom, where there is grass, and a blue reflection at the top where there is sky.

In this image the entire scene has become blue, and the bottom edge glows blue rather than green. Click image for larger version Name:	LightingTest-CurvedScreen.png Views:	1 Size:	828.4 KB ID:	1013072

I use 'emissive' to achieve the look you're after. Apply the map to the diffuse area. Adjust the intensity to change the glow. You can also add bloom in the after effects om the Vray frame buffer.

      Hi,

Are you using GPU for render engine - if you are keep in mind that Mesh Light Textures are currently not supported. In case this is your situation I may suggest two ways for achieving the effect you’re after.
First method is as Maitken wrote you can apply the Emissive Material with Compensate EV checked - this will allow you to see the screen brightness correct no matter the EV but it would be difficult to control properly the light distribution and its properties. I will advise not to use a flat plane but an object with volume and apply the material on the desired face.
There is another cleaner and more effective option - create a Rectangular Light, slot the texture within and place it in front of the screen geometry - it will allow you to control the intensity of the light more precisely. You can find a similar subject you can find here:
