Is it possible to take a scene with many objects and groups and save it as a VRscene to render in SketchUp? OR do you need to make everything one mesh, like when you export a proxy?

And that's what I thought, but I am exporting an Evermotion tree in Max using VRScene into SketchUp and the leaves are not showing up. The trunk and the leaves are 2 separate groups, the trunk renders in SketchUp and the leaves do not. Now, if I attach the leaves to the trunk and make a single mesh in Max, then I re-export VRScene, it renders in SketchUp now.
Here's a quick screen cap -
