  • ACES cg in Vray for Sketchup!!!

    Hi Konstantin and Peter Chauchev

May i ask... When Will we have this new color system???, i know we can use a tone mapping in ACES with the new vray frame buffer, but it is not the same as 3d max and maya, i think we should have this option ( color management) , as Muhammad Hamed pointed in the vray forums " i think everyone should adapt to that in vray..."as a vray user i think we can gain a Lot with this new wide gamut color
    thanks in advance

    Hi luisgamino2 ,

Enabling the ACEScg is something we considered in the past but decided against to avoid added complexity.
It will require exposing a new color space option to all bitmaps as well as something in the settings.

On the other hand I realize that there are studios using our product in more than one host app.
In this case having a consistent workflow is important.
We'll reconsider adding the option in an update.
Thanks for bringing my attention back to this.

    Konstantin

I can understand it's a little bit dificult and it Will take time and resources, but how Big is the change Konstantin with ACES...??? How does it looks a standard srgb image compare with ACES Cg image??? In the begin of vray 5 presentation for 3d max the change with srgb to aces it looks quite interesting, and Also in the vray frame buffer in tonemapping there is an option called log space, when should i tick or untick that option??? Only when i want to use aces in tonemapping?? Also ticking that option gives You a brigther image

I already read the article about aces Cg in vray Home page, resources, but as a vray user i would like to see how does it looks the diference between aces Cg and standard srgb in a vray render

      Thanks in advance Konstantin

It is not at all difficult for us to expose the options that allow the ACEScg workflow.
On the other hand it might be confusing for users when the corresponding options appear.

I'd recommend you search for 'ACEScg in V-Ray' on YouTube and check some of the ways people are using it in Max.
I guess we should consider writing an article on the topic or recording a video ourselves.

This option is unrelated to the ACEScg color space.
It changes the way the tone mapping curve is applied to the image color values.

          Hi Konstantin
I apreciated the feedback, already Saw some examples in YouTube with maya and max and Also Muhammed had the amability to explained to me how does it work... And i have to said... ACES looks really amazing... Also fixeighted pointed that sketchup is a Big part of the Market right Now, a Lot of vray users use sketchup not only as to model but as their final render... And probably this is the future in colors and lights... So i think vray for sketchup should be as profesional as vray for 3d max and maya, I like a Lot vray 5, is great... But i miss a Lot ACES cg

          Thanks Konstantin
