  • Vrmesh proxy objects created with sketchup and material matching.

Is it possible to automatically import materials linked to proxy objects of a VRmesh, without having to manually match them? I don't understand why proxy objects like those from the cosmos library automatically import materials, while with proxy objects, imported, created by sketchup, they don't bring the materials with them.

    Hi alexpacio2015,

The .vrmesh file is mesh container and can not store material in it.
However there are a couple of ways in which you can achieve what you're after:

    1. You can export a Proxy Scene instead. It saves out a vrscene file which stores both the mesh and the materials.
This approach is easy to use but less flexible than the one I'll suggest next since you'll loose the ability to edit the materials after import. The Proxy Mesh is also limited in a way during interactive rendering.

    2. You can use the .vrmat container to store the Proxy Mesh and its material assignments. Here's how you do it:
    - Create a Proxy Mesh object in the project.
    - Select it in the Asset Editor and save it as a .vrmat using the Save icon on the footer.
    - The open the vrmat in another project and the Proxy Mesh will get imported together with it's material.
Note that this workflow can take advantage of the .vrmat library panel referred as Preset Material Library in the docs - https://docs.chaos.com/display/VSKET...y+Asset+Editor
In this panel a folder can be loaded and used to store your assets.

    Hope that helps,
    Konstantin

Thanks, it works perfectly with vrmat. Now we should make an additional effort to see the preview of the proxy object in the materials asset, like on cosmos, it would be fantastic and very useful.
