  • Color by Layer-doesn't recognize materials

I have used color by layer in sketchup for many models. The Vray plugin doesn't seem to recogoize the materials I added in color by layer. Is there a trick to this?

coloring layers only work for organizing SU. it was not intended for Vray purpose. You will have to be ore specific on what you are trying to do.

Wow, many months later and I am still trying to figure this one out. I would really like to get this renderer for our office but our office standard is to work in sketchup using color by layer mode. Essentially we apply materials through the layer rather than the object itself. When you go to render in vray none of the materials render.Color by layer is a great way of working in sketchup- it keeps everything very organized. Does anyone know a way to overcome this?
      Thanks

        hi

let me see. you can try this method. you can select a face that is supposed to be in the layer you want to apply the material in v-ray. then right click on it and select "all in the same layer". after that yo go to v-ray material editor where you should have the material you want to apply already preppare. right click on the v-ray material and choose apply material to objects. what this option will do is apply the material to every single object that is selected on your sketchup model... after this you shouldn`t have any problems working with layers and v-ray materials...
