using Sun and direct light (Omni / Rectangular)

is it possible to use the sun (setting the GI Skylight and background to the vray sky) as well as omni and direct lights in the same scene? they seem to be mutually exclusive for me.

hmmm, seem to have fixed it by hitting update on the scene, and then going to the render settings and hiting update and then apply on both the skylight and the background.
