  • What version do you use V1 or V1 SR1 RC1?

    Hi all,

Actually I prefer the V1. I know the bugs and some workarounds and I manage to do what I need.

I've try the SR1 RC1 but the material editor didn't convince me as I had to redo all the materials each time I opened the files...

Just want to know which one do you use and why.

    Cheers
    Tom

I use V1 as the RC1 isn't stable enough for me. It feels more like a beta than a release candidate.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Yep, me too. V1 for the same reason.
Actually it was the feedback from other users that lead me not to even try it. I'll wait for the full release.

Try out RC2...it is a huge improvement over the first RC. Much fewer bugs and a lot of fixes all around.

If everyone agrees that the latest RC2 version is stable, we'll be that much closer to releasing a completely finalized version. We won't know if it's stable unless we have lots of folks testing it out. Those of you who tested out RC1 and told us about the issues you encountered, have been a HUGE help, and we thank you. We have fixed a TON of bugs that were in the RC1 version. Anyone who is still using the 1.0 version should be in for a real treat when they install the latest RC2.

The more people we have testing the product, the more bugs we can find and repair, so if you have the ability to help us test this product, we would really appreciate the feedback. If you do have some feedback, or a bug that you would like to send us, please submit it through the support page though, not the forums (the developers don't get time to look at the forums too often). Again, we really appreciate the support of this community, and look forward to releasing a great final product to you guys.

            Happy Rendering (^_^)

They want all bugs to be submitted to their bug reporting system. http://asgvis.com/index.php?option=c...0&topic=4049.0

                  OK

Installed RC2 - rendered an existing scene - chaos (!!)

The release notes dont seem to give guidance on getting started with this release - is there any guidance anywhere?

                  Thanks

                    Chaos = what???

If you guys are seeing things the we need to know specifically what they are. We don't have many scenes from older versions waiting in the wings to open up with the new version. We also don't necessarily know your workflow (components, groups, linked mats...) so we don't know if things set up a certain way will cause certain issues. Keep in mind that the material system is significantly different from the system used in the old release. There's a lot more translation that needs to happen, and a lot more communicating with SU materials. Is material stuff what you're seeing? or are options/lights getting messed up too?

Details please...we need the details if we're going to be able to fix it.

As a first step with the new set-up - are there any guidance notes?

                      Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by guidance. There are a list of changes/additions/fixes in the readme file. There aren't any significant UI changes that would require a "start from scratch" kind of introduction. Materials are the only big change, but that has changed in a more intuitive way...basically SU materials and Vray materials now all work together. If there's more info that you'd like about something specific than just ask.

                          Damian

                          Well, for starters.
I loaded a scene, which I used earlier today and just rendered it, using all its existing settings - it just rendered white - I tried adjusting camera settings but just can't get the overwelming brightness down.
So do we abandon our old settings and start with the ones in the new settings folder.
I'm just trying one of the new settings and my model is still completely bleached out.

                          I'll keep trying.

Have you tried it on a new model = one you didn't render with previous VfSU versions?

I can understand the new version possibly being incompatible with the older SU files you rendered with VFSU.
If this would be the case, some kind of 'reset settings' tool maybe could be provided by Asgvis so older files can be set up from scratch? Just an idea.

Re: What version do you use V1 or V1 SR1 RC1?

I don't believe that there are any changes that would cause that kind of behavior. I would venture to get that something isn't getting translated/read correctly from the old file to the new settings. Can you try exporting out the settings from the file, then reimporting them and seeing what happens? I haven't run into any issues like that when working directly from new files, and I haven't had to change any of my normal settings either.

We don't want to make your old models useless, and we're working towards making things as backwards compatible as possible. The thing is that we just can't reproduce all of the different things that you guys are seeing out there. If you have a scene that is being persistent and doesn't want to take to the new build, then please send that to us if you can.
