    Re: Xfrog

yeah, its the same in C4D the UV mapping is still there though, if u open the material editor and place the leaf texture in the bitmap slot (the same for the branch shader) it will map correctly then export 3ds... import to sketchup

      Re: Xfrog

I have a problem when i import the 3DS in sketchup:

      3ds Errors:
      Could not create texture:EU15LEF.JPG
      Could not create material:_tree 2Branch1
      Could not create texture:EU15BRK1.JPG
      Could not create material:_tree 2BranchSha
      Could not create texture:EU15LEF.JPG
      Could not create material:_tree 2DefaultSh

why is it not working... I did remap the textures in max

        Re: Xfrog

thats because the 3ds is not in the same folder as the textures
very important, i had such huge hassles with 3ds, i own them now though :P

            Re: Xfrog

The textures always end up shifting position when I import the .3ds into SU.

I use Xfrog to lower the polygons are much as possible.
            Export as .obj
Convert all .tiff textures to .png
Import .obj file in 3ds (Everything fine. All textures correctly positioned)
Edit all materials to use .png files
            Export to .3ds
Import .3ds in SU. Textures comes out misplaced.

I've searched the forum for everything about the XFrog frees, but I can't work out what I'm missing.

              Re: Xfrog

I found out why some of the texture is shifted. It's the backside of leaf polygons. They don't have a material so they adopt the texture of the front face without using any of the texture mapping of the front side.

How do you lot ensure both sides get texture co-ordinates in SU?

                Re: Xfrog

when u ad a clip map to a material it maps the back side of that face with the same material as teh front... do some tests take one leaf duplicate a turn around so ur looking at the correct side and the back side, apply clip maps(link materials) and render u'll see both side render correctly

                  Re: Xfrog

I found out that while SU displayed the textures incorrectly on the backside, V-Ray rendered them correct.

                    Re: Xfrog

                    1. i used XFrog tune to lower the polygons as well.
                    2. exported as obj.
                    3. imported to 3dmax
                    4. added the .tiff to the diffuse map

most of the leafs textured corectly, but not all of them. Of course when i import the 3ds. to SU the position of the textures is the same.

40th: i bet ur using the SR1... also gave me some hassles with clipping.
the mapping does seem correct except for those white blocks???

                        Free Agent:
Actually i'm using v1.00 and it looks like the mapping problem begins in 3dmax mapping where not all leafs get the correct uv position and the SU imitates the position as u can see in the images i posted.
How can i make this right??

                          Re: Xfrog

i see... do u create a new material in max or put the leaf texture with the already present grey DefaultShader1 material?

here it is 2400 poly's skp file- 4mb. is it ok?
and one last Q to Free Agent: do you use bump maps on the leafs in your exteriors?

i havnt uptill yesterday, but i only used it to add some dynamics to the reflection i added to them, otherwise the reflection is too flat and planar

I found that Xfrog 3.5 can export directly to 3DS. (opposite to XfrogTune). But I couldn't find a way to lower the polygons, How can i do that with Xfrog 3.5 ?
