    does this plugin change the lightning situation ? i show you an example:

    "before" takes 60 sec from hitting the render button to having the finished pic. i find this quite loooooong.

    "after" takes only 40 sec, still quite long i think, and the lightning situation seems to have changed !

    any ideas ? thank you

    and yes, another thing i noticed. i stopped the render times from hitting the R button with my phone. add 20 sec to the time shown on the frame each time please, dont know why that is ...

      It doesn't change the lighting directly, but it does change the materials. Which inderectly affects the lights.

      You got an Infinite Plane there, right? For those, you actually want the material on the outside of the group. What the plugin did was transfer the material from the group to the face inside. But VfSU doesn't read the material of the face for Infinite Planes - it reads the material from the group.

      Also, the issue with VfSU slowing down isn't really a problem in the beta you're using. It was in the old one. The parsing time then was much worse. I just didn't think you where using the beta - would probably be best if you posted in the beta forum.
      Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

        ok, as i played with this for like 30 min now (due to these odd render times) i can state the following:

        the plugin removes the material from the infinite plane. the top looks the same in sketchup, the bottom of the plane gets neutral color, and the rendering is alot different.

        i have to re-apply the material to the group to get the same effect back, and then .. re-using the plugin, it does the same like before: remove the material.

        render times stay the same, app. 40-60 sec.

        ok i go on and play some longer ...

          Yea, this plugin isn't relevant for the beta version. It handles group/component materials completely different from the old version.
          Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

                Don't use this with version 1.48.xx or later. We fixed the parsing time, this plugin is no longer needed. Upgrading to 1.48.xx is free if you have an existing license for 1.05.30 or earlier.

                    1. Applying the material on the geometry directly?
                    or
                    2. Applying the material on top of group/component?
                    or
                    3. It doesn't matter from vfs pov.

                      The best and easy way is apply the material directly to the components. But some time this method is not possible, specially with some 3D warehouse components. In this case you have to apply the material directly to the faces.

                        with positioning textures, the material has to be on the face to be able to edit mapping in SU.

                        There's also the displacement issue where it only works if the whole group/ component is one material. Applying material to component is best here, as I've noticed issues where a different edge material sometimes causes problems.

                        *edit: in my experience with the latest builds, I have not noticed a difference in speed either way, vray seems to be neutral now as regards to material placement.

                          when vray is processing the scene for render (parsing), which method of material applying is faster (for parsing) ?
